iOS App to Check ECAS Status in One Click

Hello friends,

The wait is over!

A new app called CICAppStatus https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/cicappstatus/id654435465?ls=1&mt=8 is now available in the Apple app store. This is an awesome app that allows you to check the detailed status of your PR/citizenship application with the click of a button. Very simple app that gets the job done. Personal info never leaves your device, which is a huge advantage.

The app is using the same encryption (https) used by ECAS when using a web browser, and pretty much simulates your actions on ECAS without having you enter the information every time and click through several pages. It costs $1.99 and pays for itself after a couple of uses, as it reduces the time needed to check your status to seconds instead of minutes (information needs to be entered only once, then your iPhone/iPod/iPad will remember it for future inquiries).

I volunteered to help test this app before it was released as I have an application in process and wanted to share this with everyone here as it is great if you check your ECAS status often.

I don't know buddy, but I am not going to use this App.

It does not seem like a CIC approved app. I think CIC won't charge for an app.
Besides it says "Seller: Inversion of Control Software, Ltd"

I feel someone made an app with links to CIC, charging $2 to use it.
I don't think i will use my application info with that App.

Isnt ECAS only get updated on Tuesday ? So Why u need some thing like this..U can login on tuesday and check

Why would someone give there confidential information to a third party intermediate Person/App??

Do Not Enter your confidential file information in any App or Website other than CIC.

It's clear that you are the developer of the application or have a stake in it. It's all you've posted, anyone can easily check your post history. I don't think you're allowed to advertise your application here.

Guys, never ever disclose your ecas information anywhere else than on the ecas website from CIC!!!!
Everything else it no developed by CIC and you have NO control on what happens with
the data you provide on those apps or websites!

I hate to speak ill of people's intentions, but I'll lay it bare:

I am appalled that people are taking advantage of the desperation of prospective applicants like that, not only for a fee, but also at the cost of their privacy...

Justify it however you like, you're still acting in an opportunistic and unethical way. This forum exists for people to voluntarily help each other out at no cost to anyone; I was helped when I was putting together my application, and in turn, I help people who have questions about theirs. To expect payment in return is a slap in the face to the spirit of this community and to the applicants (myself included) who are anxiously waiting day upon day to hear back about their applications.

Yes, I do have stake in the app, as the publishers will offer me a free iPad if there is a certain number of apps sold. I am not sure why some of you think that is wrong. Since when is marketing a bad thing? I myself use the app as I have an application in process with CIC and found it very useful and that is the motive of me sharing it.

Anyways, the app doesn't store your data anywhere else other than on your iPhone or iPad (or iPod touch). So your data never leaves your device. The app simulates your actions by doing all the steps you usually do on ECAS website (behind the scenes) and presents you with the information in one click. It is the same thing as if you went on ECAS website and did all the steps, without the typing of information every time and clicking through several pages.

The website https://ecas.carroll.org.uk is good if you are OK with your information stored on the publisher's server (whereas the app doesn't store any of your information on any server, it's all on your device). I am NOT OK with my information stored on any server, that's why I am comfortable with the app as I can remove my information any time I want.

And no, the app is not approved, affiliated, or endorsed by CIC. Much like your computer browser you use to access ECAS on the website. The app is just a convenient browser that remembers the information and allows you to get your status with one click.

If anyone has constructive feedback about the app, please share it and i will communicate it to the publishers.

ECAS is updated on days other than Tuesday. I have had my own ECAS updated on a Saturday at one point, and then another update was on a Thursday. This is besides the point, since many applicants check ECAS daily regardless, hoping to see some update.
