Hi there,

I am a recent PR owner and I was wondering if there are any ways to invite my parents from back home to come reside in Canada.

I was actually not too sure if this category falls under Family Class Sponsorship as Im not capable of financially supporting my parents at the moment. My question would be more like is there any way to help them get a Permanent Residency Visa sooner to live with me as Im a PR holder myself.

Thank you so much!

If you want them to move here permanently, then you either need to have enough income to qualify to sponsor them under the parent sponsorship stream - or they would need to qualify on their own through a program like Express Entry..

Thank you for your reply, so my understanding is if I show the enough income proof to support them for the parent sponsorship stream, I can invite them here right? what visa would they hold while they are here and would that be a pr visa or the visa that only allows them to stay here for a certain period of time, and if they were to be able to stay permanently, would they allowed to build their own income by working or have a education? thank you so much

To sponsor them through the parent sponsorship stream you must be able to show that you have earned enough income to meet the minimum income requirements for the last three years and be able to prove this by providing three Canadian tax return statement. You would then have to enter the lottery and hope you are selected as a sponsor. Only a limited number of spots are available each year. If you are selected through the lottery and your parents obtain PR status, then yes they will be able to live, work and go to school in Canada and also stay here permanently.

If they just want to visit, then you can look into a super visa. However a super visa will not allow them to move here permanently. They also will not be able to work and you will be responsible for supporting them.
