Assuming it is a paper application then you can send the copy, but an original is always recommended. Personally I suggest that the invitation letter with all support documentation (if any) should be sent in a sealed envelope for the officer to open (it gives more certainty this way that is not forged).

No. There is no use in notarizing the letter.

Thank you for your response..
You've mentioned that original is always recommended, but is it compulsory? or a scanned copy will do?
My friend in canada is asking me if he can just send a scanned copy of the letter (together with the other supporting docs) because mailing it will take weeks, im planning to apply for visitors visa asap.

Thanks in advance!
