Hello all,
Hoping someone would have an opinion on my case or have seen something similar!
I am French and was a business school student (school located in France) between 2012 and 2016. I enventually obtain my diploma (master) in 2016.
Out of these 4 years, I was a full time student (ie. attending classes) for 3 years, and I worked in a paid internship postion for 1 year in Canada (this was between my 2nd and 3rd academic year).
Now, I know CIC mentions that work experience gained as a full time student on a study permit cannot count as valid work experience. However, during my internship in Canada I worked under a valid work permit: it was a closed work permit (not a student work permit however!) that fell under the "Internationnal Mobility Program" (link: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/tools/temp/work/opinion/francophone.asp). My job title was also not "Intern", rather I was occupiying the position of "Marketing Assistant" and was paid accordingly
All in all, it looked like a completely legitimate and valid work experience in Canada, but I am worried about the fact that this happened while I was still technically a student back home (even though I was not enrolled in any classes during this one year).
So with this caveat in mind, I am wondering:
1) Whether this 1 year would be counted as valid work experience?
2) If yes, in my application should I split my time as a student in 2 buckets to avoid overlaps with my work experience? ie. Instead of saying I was a student from september 2012 to august 2016, I could say I was a student from september 2012 to may 2014, then again from September 2015 - august 2016
Would love to hear your opinion on that!
