Hello all,

I have applied for a student visa, along with an owp for my husband- We are not U.S. Citizens- however my child is.

My question is the following: I understand U.S. citizens do not need a visa to enter Canada, however the tourist permit only allows a stay of 180 days max (with possibility of renewal) My study program is 2 years long. How can my child (who is 3 years old, so can't apply for student visa) be in Canada with us for the following 2 years? Are going to have to keep extending her tourist permit?

When I applied for my husband's and my visas, I tried including her but it kept telling me she doesn't need one. Is there a special permit for minors who will accompany parents while they study?

I hope this makes sense. Thanks for any response!

Hi

When you enter Canada, you need to request that the child be issued visitor status to match the validity of your permit.
