Hi all. I am posting for a relative.

Interested in applying express entry federal skilled worker program. I have taken the questionnaire on cic and I am eligible. My points are approximately around 440-460.

In verifying my credentials do I go through WES? or because I am a physician I saw something with MCC ECA report if intending to apply as a physician.

I was wondering can I list my education with my professional degree but choose intended job as a previous field of employment? Because I know how difficult it is to get residency as an img.

Has any other imgs on this forum done express entry and can advise me? Or anyone with knowledge regarding this?

Also should I try doing the application solo or is it worth the help of an immigration lawyer?

Thank you so much

To get points for the medical degree, it must be assessed by the Medical Council of Canada. If you have other degrees which you also want assessed, you can go through WES or one of the other designated organizations.

Generally, there is no requirement that you work in the same field that you studied. But it has to make sense. For example, you can study music and work as a cook, but you can't study music and claim to work as a physician.

If you are applying:
as a specialist physician (NOC 3111) or general practitioner/family physician (NOC 3112), the Medical Council of Canada (MCC) must do an ECA for your primary medical diploma,"

I have previous work experience in the media industry and was thinking of using that as my intended job. So even if I do that because my degree is medical I would have to go through MCC? Or only if I put intended job as physician?

Either way I am guessing it makes more sense to do MCC? Or can there be any disadvantage in my case vs WES? If I do WES would I not get the points or will I if I list intended job as media field?

I apologize of any of the questioning seems silly or the answer is obvious. Just want to be 100 percent certain

1. For the ECA for your medical degree - in order to get the points for it as a "professional degree" it has to be assessed by the MCC (and not WES), so no matter what you put as your principal job, you should have your degree evaluated by the MCC.

2. You don't have to put physician as your intended work. You can put whatever you like, but bear in mind that for your "primary occupation" in order to be eligible, you must have worked in that occupation within the last five years (see http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?qnum=1007&top=29)

Ok I understand it clearly now. Thank you. And yes it makes sense.

Last silly question. Can you use a job offer not in your field? I am assuming no. My aunt owns a restaurant that sells our ethnic food. Would a job offer be of any use?

Good day all. Please, I have a question to ask and I hope I'd get the right answer.

I am a medical doctor, with over five years post graduation experience (including Internship and working as a medical officer while doing the compulsory National Youth Service in my country Nigeria). Ever since then, I have been working in private hospitals as a Medical Officer with job roles including outpatient, inpatient and emergency care.

I also decided to make a gradual career switch to Epidemiology, so I commenced my Masters in Epidemiology and Medical Statistics last year and will do my research dissertation defence in a few months as the final phase before I get my Masters degree.

Additionally, I have passed my IELTS examination but currently waiting for the source verification of my medical degree with the ECFMG before I can proceed with the ECA.

Please, I would like to ask the following questions:

1) What will be the ideal NOC to choose as a Medical Doctor with a general practitioner experience, bearing in mind that my employment letters bear the role of Medical Officer or Medical Doctor?

2) Can post-college Internship/Housemanship be included as part of professional experience while applying for the Express Entry?

3) Can I get a job as an epidemiologist if I successfully get into Canada, bearing in mind that I will soon be done with my Masters and that I have about a year's experience volunteering with NGOs in that regard?

Thanks a lot. I will really be grateful if I could get an elaborate answer to these questions.

Please did you get any solution to this question as I am also from Nigeria
