I know no one can give me a black and white answer on this, but I'm really torn and would love to know what you would do....

I hold a diplomatic passport, but am not a diplomat myself. I recently changed to ordinary passport but at the time of application, I applied for my PR with my diplomatic passport.

Recently came across this:
"All prospective immigrants must hold a valid regular or private passport at the time of landing. Diplomatic, official, service or public affairs passports are not valid for immigration to Canada."

................how I missed this crucial part before applying? I have no clue. I even went to see a lawyer before submitting, and he didn't say anything about it.

I'm a January 2014 applicant which means I can hear back from them any day now. Should I just bring in my ordinary passport at the time of landing (if I even get a positive DM) and hope that they don't reject me on the spot based on my passport? This is what my MP told me to do but what if they reject me first...?

Interestingly I did get an OWP even with my diplomatic passport.....

I look forward to your thoughts!

Why don't just update CIC explaining you have a personal passport now and that you didn't know until now that they would put the visa on a diplomatic passport?

That way, they'll request you to submit your regular passport to get the visa. They will NOT put a visa for spousal PR on a diplomatic passport.

Hope it helps.

Without your regular passport your application is incomplete and will not be processed. CANLII has cases like this where application is returned or refused due to lack of valid travel document. I would suggest you to update CIC immediately with copy of your current regular passport explaining the situation before it is too late.

Just emailed them! Im going to express-post it as well just in case.

My concern though is that when I tried to transfer my old US visa from diplomatic passport to ordinary passport, I was told that nothing from diplomatic passport can be transferred on to ordinary passport..... Hopefully Canada views this differently. I would hate to go back to square one when we are so close!!!

Do you know what happened to Canlii?

To avoid delays in processing your application, PLEASE DO NOT send the same enquiry more than once or by other methods (i.e. fax or mail).

I guess I won't be mailing it through express post then.

My partner just got SA today.

Keeping all my fingers and toes crossed.
