Dear amikety,

I will definitely call and send emails and search on Google, But from what I am seeing in this forum and for any province it is required to get the AIP “Approval in Principle” before they grant the sponsored spouse a health care coverage! Which i feel it is a logic decision by the health care provided in any province.

So now I have the following question and I need to get a clear answer for it, Does ALBERTA health care gives the health insurance Immediately to the spouse being sponsored(my wife) OR the sponsored person(my wife) MUST wait till she get the AIP?? And if she has to wait then how long exactly? For Ontario it is 8 months but in Alberta how long!?!?

Some people have gotten health coverage from Alberta as soon as they applied. Try. It seems the health care officials are not always too clear about the rules either. If one says no, try again later.

Dear all,

I got an answer but not clear at all!

They said it may take 2 weeks minimum but I have to show documents to prove that my wife status will be changed from TRV to PR!

But how can I show them that? I told them clearly that my wife on TRV and I will apply from INLAND for her sponsorship, so practically I will reach Canada and apply for her sponsorship ,let’s say the second day, but then what? The application will go to the processing center and will take months to get the AIP!

That means the time required till I get the health card to my wife is= days required to stay minimum at that province+ days required till I get the AIP.

Question:- is the time needed to get the AIP different between a province to another???

Does it matter if I go to Saskatchewan, Alberta or Ontario and settle down there?

I want to know which province will process the application faster(sponsorship of a wife from INLAND)

You could try showing them a copy of the PR application and proof that it was delivered.

A lot of times it's at the discretion of the person processing your request. If possible, have your wife call CIWA (it's a women's group, so its best she call). (403)263-4414. They may be able to help her.

If all else fails, be prepared to purchase visitor's health insurance for her. That's what I had to do.

I'll be applying for my own healthcare in a few weeks, so I'll try to remember to update you.

They sent me an email and they clearly indicated that I can get the health card ONLY after receiving the AIP and not before that.

Health insurance does not cover any baby deliver case! Hence ill not be able to come to Canada, because I can’t afford to baby deliver which may cost me between 6000 to any where in 30000CAD in case of any complications!

what a shame for a perosn to wait for 8 to 12 months to get an AIP(this in case no further doc is required)!! they should increase number of employees.

i have to change all my plans
