Hi there,

Forgive me I'm not sure if this is the appropriate place to ask this.

I (an immigrant) am sponsoring my wife for an inland application, sent an OWP application with it. Application was received early July 2017, got message on Oct 31, 2017 that the OWP was approved. Today Nov 6, received OWP letter, both Issue Date and Expiry Date are Oct 31, 2017. VERY confused! I assume this isn't normal and is not even a valid work permit(?). Have anyone seen a case like this before? I did a simple google but nothing turned up.

Wife entered Canada on March 25, 2017, so supposedly her visitor status expires Sept 25, 2017. She sent an application to extend her status early September but not yet approved. Could this be the reason? Extending visitor status apparently takes over 140 days. They can't possibly expect us to apply that much ahead right?

EDIT for update: Called CIC and was told it was an mistake. We were told a new visa should arrive within 2 weeks. Thank you all for answering!

The extension has nothing to do with it. Sounds like an error to me unless she applied with a passport that has since expired. Any chance that happened?

Hi. Thank you for answering!

Her passport is valid until 2022. It shouldn't be a problem. I'm starting to believe it is an error as well. I did find one similar case where the main applicant was on implied status when submitting sponsorship+OWP, but he received OWP that was valid for 2 years.

Sorry I know I probably should come here to ask after I call cic tomorrow, but I'm very confused and honestly a little mad because I feel I'm being played by a black box.

Thank you in advance for any answers,

IRCC should issue her a corrected work permit, though it will likely take a few weeks. Alternatively, if you are anywhere near the Canada-US border, you could visit the CBSA office and ask if they can re-issue it with a proper expiry date.

I just called and was told it was a mistake. The agent said the case will be put on urgent, and a new visa should be received within 2 weeks. Thank you so much for your advise!
