What is meant by 'inland' and 'outland' applications? I've come across these terms in several posts. If I'm sponsoring my husband from Pakistan, me being a Canadian citizen and him, a Pakistani citizen, is that an inland or outland application?

If he is in Canada then he can apply inland or Outland but if he stays in Pakistan then he only can apply Outland.

if your husband is currently in pakistan, you applied outland. meaning you applied to "sponsor a spouse outside of canada". The application is processed outside of canada at a visa office for that particular country. Applicants can be IN canada or outside of canada for the process.

if the applicant is in canada, and intends to be for an extended period of time, they are eligible to apply from "inside canada", or inland. The application is processed from within canada. Applicants MUST remain in canada for the entire process, and are advised not to leave.

for most applicants, it's not recommended to apply inland right now because of the substantial increase in processing time. generally, people choose this option if they are already in canada as a worker or student temporarily, and want permanent status to be with their spouse.

BTW do they applications now go straight to the London visa office, or first go to Islamabad and are transferred from there?

you'll want to ask that question in either the london thread or the islamabad transferred to london thread.
