INLAND AUGUST 2018 APPLICANTS - JOIN HERE

Hi everyone,

I sent a request for GCM notes for my husband's file yesterday and ironically after having received no news for a year, we got a letter today that says that we meet all preliminary eligibility requirements and that the application for permanent residence is approved. However, a final decision will not be made until all final requirements are met.

Anybody else get this letter yet? If so, any idea on ETA for final approval? Thankfully I think all our documents are up to date.

Glad to hear that your application is moving on as well.

I believe we received the same letter, it's the AIP (Approval in Principle). In our case, we received the AIP letter, a new request for medical exams (that I have done yesterday, March 5th) and another letter asking to resend 2 forms, IMM0008 and IMM5669...apparently they request it again because it's over a year and we might have some updates.

At the same time, they started my BGC, so I don't have any idea how long it will take until DM. However, my guess is that since we have meds passed it should not take too much time for DM.

Did they request additional docs for you?

Thank you so much for taking the time to share info and your kind comments! your file sounds very promising, thrilled for you. Thanks as well for clarifying that it's the AIP letter. We didn't have any mention of additional documents to submit, were yours written in the same letter? It's also been over 1 year since my husband did the medical exam, so guessing we will receive the same notice as you did.
Very encouraging news that you're closer to the DM! Fingers crossed that the PR is issued soon... it feels like we've all been waiting forever!!!!!

No worries, that's why we're all here, to support each other and pass-through this process, learning and sharing together.

I received separate letters for the medical request, API and additional forms, and the last one was the letter of the pre-arrival service (which I believe do not apply for us that are already live in Canada).

OWP in mid December of 2018
Sponsor approval in March 2019
Nothing since then until AIP on Tuesday.

So i'm guessing the quota did reset for the new year and they are continuing where they left off, which should have been applicants from July/August 2018?

Thanks for sharing!
I believe you're right, they were probably waiting for Quebec's new quotas in 2020 to continue processing our applications.

I hope we don't have to wait much longer.

That’s a tricky question.
Yes, you can travel outside Canada, however it’s not recommended, because if for any reason you’re denied entry in Canada, your application might be canceled. That’s because since we have applied IN LAND, we have to keep a valid status here.
If you have applied for a OWP, IRCC has issued an electronic travel authorization with it in your valid passport. If you decide to travel, take your work permit with you, as the border officer can request to see it in order to let you in.

I know plenty of people that have left Canada for a few days and have returned without any problems.

I personally have traveled to Florida for a week and when I returned the immigration officer only asked where I went and if I had my permit, but didn’t asked to see it.

In the end it’s your choice to take the risk or not.

Ps: if you do not have the electronic travel authorization, you also have to hold a valid visa to enter in Canada on top of your work permit.

Anyone still waiting? Applied 10th August 2018. Last I heard on 20th Feb 2019 that the application process had started. And no movement since. British citizen with no complications. It's kind of testing that it takes so long to process a simple application like this. How difficult can it be?

I've now requested GCM notes and asked my local MP to help.

I can't image why they have spent so much time to deal with your case. Did they ask your additional documents?
