Hello All,

I am new to this forum but i always read from time to time. My husband applied to sponsor me in July 2015, while we were applying he filled that he has never been married nor sponsored anybody to Canada. Today i received an email from the government that he has previously applied to sponsor a lady. When i asked him he said 15 years ago his uncle tried to bring his cousin to Canada using him as a spouse in Calgary but they never sent in any document to process it. He doesn't even remember because he was younger and he never approved of it. Now the government is asking him to explain why he said he has never sponsored any one

Please i need an advise on what response to give the government. we have been married for over a year but we have been living together for 2 yrs+. Should i tell the government his uncle was using him as a fraud as he had no knowledge of it and he doesn't even o if any document was submitted at that time.

Great way to start the weekend. :(

If he never sent in any documentation...how did CIC find out about it? Does CIC have in their possession anything from him (from that time) that bears his signature?

Misrepresentation is very serious. Don't be surprised if CIC rejects his sponsorship application.

Good luck!

Your husband needs to take time and think very carefully about his past. What did he do exactly? Then you two clarify things to CIC and wait for their decisions.

Hello everyone!

I'll try to make this short. I am looking for reassurance! My husband is a Canadian citizen and sponsoring me. (I am American. We have been together since 2012.) This is our second PR application and I am stressing! (Our first was outland and denied after 15 months of waiting because they didn't believe we were in a genuine relationship and I was wrongfully deemed inadmissible by a border guard... A different border guard at a different crossing told me I should have never been deemed that.)

I have lived with him in Canada since May 2013 on TRP's. We sent medical, background checks, and paid all fees when applying.

I'll start with my timeline:

June 26, 2015 - Applied for Inland Spousal Sponsorship (as common-law, engaged to be married)
Sept 5, 2015 - AOR received
Oct 7, 2015 - Open work permit received in mail
Oct 10, 2015 - We got married!
July 2016 - CIC requests documents from my time served in the U.S. Army
Oct 26, 2016 - Sponsorship Approval received
Oct 31, 2016 - AIP received
Nov 9, 2016 - logged in online and saw status changed to Decision Made!

Now I am confused because when I logged in, it showed:
SPONSORSHIP APPLICATION: IN PROGRESS
1. We received your application to sponsor Laina on June 26, 2015.
2. We sent you correspondence acknowledging receipt of your application(s) on Sept 4, 2015.
3. We started processing your application on Sept 3, 2015.

PERMANENT RESIDENT APPLICATION: DECISION MADE
1. We received your application for permanent residence on June 26, 2015.
2. Medical results have been received.
3. We sent you a letter on April 25, 2016. Please consider delays...blah blah blah (This would be requesting military documents)

We got the Sponsor Approval so why would it still say in progress? And how can SA be still in progress if PR shows decision made?

Does this mean I have a letter coming in the mail with their decision?
---UPDATE---

I got sick of stressing over the mail coming everyday and phoned the call center. It turns out their system sometimes "glitches" when a case worker changes something in your file, and my application is still in progress. That is why it switched to Decision Made online but didn't state they sent a letter recently. I knew it was too good to be true considering there is still a year left from the processing wait time :( False hope is the worst. Back to waiting again...

A glimmer of hope to consider: Most applications do not take 26 months--a very small percentage is even over 20 months. They are currently landing June 2015 applicants--along with others. You could very well hear some news soon. I'd call back and get an opinion of another agent. You may not even get a decision made letter. Often they skip that and an email arrives with your landing appointment. Given that you got SA/AIP recently and no other requests....you should be landing very soon.

Hi Claudio, we applied on Sept 11 2015, my husband became a permanent resident on June 30 2016. We had to re-do the medical, and from there it only took a month for the process to complete. You're in the home stretch, just be patient!

Just a quick update for you all!

My husband became a permanent resident back in June, but we haven't received his PR card yet. There was an issue with the photos we provided, so we sent new ones in early August and were told it should only be a month or so before he got his card.

Well, it's been 6 months since he became a PR and still no card. We called CIC, who told us they had no record of even receiving his new photos (despite the fact that we have their signature for the package!). Cue the panic. We escalated and contacted our MP, who was able to get in touch with the Sydney office much quicker. She emailed us this morning to let us know they mailed his card out this past Monday, and we should have it in our hands by the end of next week.

I'm glad to know it's coming, but... grrrr.... was it just sitting on a desk waiting for us to call and ask about it?? Would we ever have received it if we didn't call the MP? Do they not realize this stuff is important!! Augh.

It's been a long long road, regardless. I'm happy that it's coming to an end!
