Hello, everyone! I posted this to another 2014 inland application thread but I was advised that this is the one we are using. sorry about that, the other thread was the only one I could find!
Anyway! My original question was:
My boyfriend and I are gearing up to apply for common law very soon, but I have a few questions that I'm hoping you all can answer for me. It's all so confusing and stressful and hard to find straight answers, haha. I know the answers have to Be on this forum somewhere but I can't find them exactly. Sorry if I sound like a broken record.
My boyfriend is Canadian and he's sponsoring me- I'm American.
1. We're applying inland- should I get my medical upfront even with current processing times? I'm afraid it will expire and it's about $350. Doing it twice won't break the bank but it certainly feels like a waste of money.
2. I'm an American, is it definitely bad to use an FBI Channeler for my clearance? The channeler I was looking at supplies the clearance directly from the FBI with an FBI symbol on the paper, includes the signature from the department, and it's tamper-proof paper which I'm assuming means if you copy it's it shows
up with the watermark "copy" all over it. I asked a lady at the CIC call center and she said it was fine to do this, but for some reason, I don't trust her. It seems every time I talk to someone at the call center they just read to me straight from the website...
1:it is preferred to send it in along with medicals, but you can also wait and do it once you get 1st stage approval, they will then request it for you to do. It may delay you a little bit, but quite a few do it that way including ourselves. 2: I'm not sure about the FBI question, but I have also seen that people do send in their police records after they send their initial app off, in case you wait explain to them that you do plan on sending them in as soon as you get them.
3. If I can't use a channeler, can I send my application without my clearance and then send the clearance when I get it later? what do you guys suggest? I'm not even sure how to send documents after my application and have them actually be included with the rest of my stuff. I'd absolutely mention what I planned on sending later in a cover letter with my application, I'm just afraid it will get lost and never reach the rest of my application.
->> 3: as long as you send it to the right address you should be fine. Make sure to explain it very well so there are no misunderstandings.
I should also mention that we have been living together in Canada for three years, we have an absolutely solid application, no red flags whatsoever. I just want to have a perfect application! The waiting is already killing me! I'm just so excited that it's happening but also so stressed out!
->> don't worry, every one who sends off their apps are feeling this way! It's normal! Try not to stress out too much, you will get through it. You say you have no red flags, so there shouldn't be anything wrong. They may request some more info at one point or another, or schedule you in for an interview, but still don't worry! Make sure to find a hobby, because the ride is long and can be frustrating! We are here to help, it's tough times so make sure to ask anything you are concerned about! Good luck
Thanks so much for the help!
