You don't need SIN to open bank account and have credit card. Anyone can open bank account with valid ID, not necessarily ID issued in Canada. Banks don't care what your status is here. You are responsible for and tax issue that might incur to you either in Canada or in your legal country of residence. As for credit card, it depends on your credit record. For visitors, it is not likely there's any credit record in Canada. The idea is to open Bank Account, Credit Card etc once SIN number is available.
