I'm a little confused. Since CIC takes an eternity to do anything, why exactly do they need people to re-do their medicals and/or security checks?

Depending on how long this process takes, are we expected to get fresh medical exams every year?
As for medical redo's, applicants cannot get their COPR or land in Canada unless their current medical tests are valid at the time of landing. So the applicants may have no choice but to redo their medical test, even though it is no false of their own due to long CIC inland processing time. They do have the alternative to NOT do the medical test upfront and wait for CIC to request medical test.

Those that did upfront medical for inland have to accept consequences that can happen beyond their control, (processing time). They do get the possible positive benefit of no delays in their processing. They also have to accept that there is also a possible negative benefit of having to redo their medical exam again.

Huh?? How can that be right? We did ours June 2013, we are landing today Feb 12, 2015, and have not been asked to re-do medicals??

It is likely that the CIC agent requested an extension validity on your medical result. If I am not mistaken, up to 6 months to a 1 year. Again it is not automatic extension. The agent reviewing the file has to make the decision to extend the validity or request a new medical exam. It is totally up to the agent's discretion.

I don't understand what is meant by "possible positive benefit of no delays in processing".

We were told that it would prevent delays to get the medical, so we actually waited an extra few weeks to submit so we could get the medical booked and done.
Waiting 2 extra weeks to submit puts us 2 or 3 months behind in processing because CIC is as fast as a dead sloth.

We thought that this meant they would have to stop processing, and ask us for the medical, if we didn't have it attached. But now it seems that no matter what, you have to re-do your medical.

Medicals are only valid for 6 or 9 months, so it's not even possible for them to be valid at the time of landing, even when the system was actually working.

Why is anyone ever told to do the medicals up-front if that's the case?

Medicals results are valid for 1 years, not 6 or 9 months. Doing an upfront medical makes more sense when the total PR inland processing time is done within 12, even up to 18 months. Doing an upfront medical now doesn't make sense to do now when you have up to 18 months for 1st stage AIP alone. Made sense to do back then when time was shorter, but not now.

screech, Ponga, do you guys know even one case when the applicant got DM, landing letter, everything, and the landing failed because it turned out on the landing interview that the applicant's medical expired? If not, please don't make ACS freak out :)

I wouldn't worry. ACS may have gotten an extra year extension on the medical validity status and not 6 months. If ACS has gotten DM and landing letter by now, chances are ACS has gotten a 1 year extension, which means, ACS would have to land before June 2015, 2 years after first medical test.

As for those landing inland with expired medical results, never heard it happened at least not since I started here.

My intent was NOT to freak out ACS.

I'm honestly more `curious' about the fact that her partner/spouse was never asked for his Costa Rica PCC, before getting what (hopefully was) the positive DM letter. If the letter turned out to be negative DM (and we all hope that it did NOT), you could see why CIC wouldn't ask the applicant for new medical, right?

Scary thought Ponga. but all signs point in the positive direction. Hopefully the agents have enough to make a positive decision on. I don't know how local offices handle the negative decision, they sure won't be called to a 'landing interview' if it was negative?

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to share our story.

We did our medical on Feb 25 2013 and received an email from CIC on Monday asking to do them again. So unfortunately the agent that has our file is not very............... understanding (that is not the word I had in mine but I will keep it for myself!). Anyway we went this morning and paid 250$ + an extra 20$ for blood work because my husband blood pressure was through the rough .....this last "hit" for CIC was like a slap in the face. The call center agent actually told us that the officer with our file probably asked to redo medical because he thinks we will not be done by Feb 25! Yeah right cause 17 month is obviously not enough time! Trying to keep positive. We receive SA but not AIP yet.

This is important info I was not aware of. To get a DM before police check report is requested is not a good sign.

I had a case of a posting of one applicant telling everyone that she gotten a DM despite never had medical test done or police check done up front. She thought it was a positive DM despite getting DM so quick. Been telling her that it is impossible to get a positive DM without medical and police reports. As it turned out, the applicant depended on the online update address change only. No follow ups. CIC was sending medical and police check requests to the old address. She never gotten them and since she never replied back by deadline, CIC assumed the PR application was abandoned. I never seen her posts since.

Bah - again with the barely there movement. I am happy for those receiving DM but this lack of progress toward AIP's is beyond ridiculous!!! Tomorrow is the one year anniversary of when CIC received our application. When we sent it they were working on apps received June 25/13 - my husband and I thought this process would be done by now. Instead, they have processed 11 weeks worth of apps in the last full year and we are not even close to AIP, never mind landing. This is seriously frustrating and beyond depressing :(.
