is it possible for quebec applicants to have the landing interview be held in Ottawa instead of Montreal because it is closer to where we live?

Guys ..... does getting employment insurance create a problem?
I told the agent that I receive EI for mat leave. She said it doesn't count. But other types of EI I'm not sure.

There are no other type of EI. There is only one.

Thanks Screech ..... i was thinking of cancelling my EI entitlements if it posed a risk to the landing. However after your comment and reading elsewhere, receiving insurance payout is not considered welfare, since we paid our premium from every paycheck.

Wish CIC had spelt it out in black and white though......!

You may want to reconsider cancelling EI if you have no gotten a job yet.

I haven't got a job as yet. I thought collecting EI would not be a problem. You're suggesting that I cancel EI to stay safe?

I just feel so stupid for trusting on advice that the "USELESS " ccagents (as I referred to them a couple days ago ) . My passport was seized by CiCEdmonton due to a refugee claim I did 4 years ago , I sent so many faxes to this local office about that ( last fax was 10 days ago ) . I also called cc so many times asking about what I should do about my passport , they always told me " don't worry , they will have your passport for you on that day " ,
So , just to make sure I sent letters and faxes to cic edmonton to confirm this ( they never replied though ) .
Today , I reminded this to the first agent I met at cic's front counter , then she checked my appointment letter , my 2 photos , and just told me that everything is fine and just wait at the waiting seats . 2 hours after , an officer called my name and told me that because I was suppose to land tru a family class application , they expected me to have my passport on hand ,
They didn't check that I have made a refugee claim ,so they never read any of my 10 letters I sent ,,, so they "guessed " that probly CBSA has it . So according to the officer , the plan to follow is : they contact CBSA and try to retrieve my passport from them , and within a couple more months they will contact me and reschedule another appointment , easy haaa! :(
I think that by now , that officer I spoke to today ,already forgot everything she told me because she was very busy landing everybody else ,
Out of luck and out of words now ,
Thanks guys , I just hope this experience help a few that are on my same situation .
Tilkun, that is not the process they follow. The letter you received for your landing did it say anything about bringing an attested passport copy?

Here's the link to their process regarding passport matters: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/manuals/bulletins/2013/ob553.asp

I myself had an expired passport that was with CBSA. The letter Vegreville sent me clearly mentioned that I had to take an attested copy of my passport for the appointment. The letter from local office said I had to take my "actual passport" to the appointment. I brought in both the letters as mentioned in the CIC document that I linked. They just took an extra minute but were able to process everything on the attested photocopy of the passport that I had.

On another note, they just made my passport available to be picked up and I'm picking it up today.

Hopefully this helps, had I known I would've warned you ahead of time. Still hoping that they get back to you ASAP!! my prayers are with you. Do not worry! :)

Also, you don't have to request the passport be sent. Its the officer that makes the decision on your file that requests it from CBSA. Its in their Operation bulletin. somewhere they made a mistake and they will fix it for you! I'd say print this for you and take it with you next time you go just in case.

No I meant I thought you were collecting EI benefits. You can't cancel EI deduction as there is no deduction to be made if you are not working.

I have filed for EI benefits. I haven't received any money. I have no problem to cancel them if it poses a risk. Just to clarify, are you suggesting that I cancel the EI application and not receive any unemployment benefits till the landing is done?

BlackDisc
No. You can go ahead and collect the EI benefits. You qualified for it. It won't affect the end result of your PR landing.

I am soo very sorry to hear that and understand you disappointment. Please, keep faith, it seems that not everything is lost. I am confident that you will have your landing, it will just be a bit longer than expected. The good thing is that there is no issue with your application. Perhaps you could try to involve you MP?
