Hi Everyone,

I just received an email from CPC-M saying that they are experiencing high volume of inquiries and that they are currently working on files received July 16, 2013 (their website just updated too). I had called two weeks ago asking for an update so I guess this is why we received the email. We applied July 30, 2013. They said that they have a high volume of case files and that they are working on them and I should have an update from them in another two/three weeks.

At least they are sending notifications now! WOOT, Congrats to all July applicants who are seeing some movement, hoping we are next!!!! In the meantime, I will be distracted by the World Cup!
That's really good to know. If they can keep the processing time as 11 month, I would be happy now. That means we can get AIP in the end of June. I also sent email to my MP and signed consent form, but haven't got any news yet.

No I have not, we called last week and they said we are still in a normal processing, which totally crap. The normal time is 6-8 weeks. Still patiently waiting, we are just waiting to finish voting here in Ontario to write our MP.
That's weird. They already processed till July 16. Yours should be already done. Hope you can get good news next week.

Sorry I am a little confused. Which application has normal processing time of 6-8 weeks?

An officer will ask you questions to make sure you meet all of the residency requirements before they allow you to come back to Canada.
Just a minor correction here: once you establish that you are a permanent resident, they are required by law to permit you to enter.

However, if you are in violation of the residency obligation they will also write an A44(1) report (basically this is the report saying you have an admissibility issue) and they could issue you a removal order. If that happens, you are still permitted to enter, but if you don't appeal the removal order within 30 days you cease to be a permanent resident of Canada.

It actually requires action on the part of the Canadian government to revoke permanent residency. While it might be a bit easier in the future (they've discussed making it an administrative process but I'm not sure if that's in the new immigration legislation or not) it's not likely it would be a refusal at the border.

People who are permanent residents of Canada but have not met the residency obligation find that it is surprisingly difficult to "get rid" of their PR.

Computergeek,

Have you heard if they are going to change the residency obligations for PR with the recent immigration changes? Or is it still going to be 2 years residing in Canada out of 5?

Ummm I believe RCMP does fingerprinting for free. Dont' get it done by another shop. Make sure the RCMP office has electronic fingerprinting it will be processed much faster than ink.

Why is your husband getting his fingerprinting done? Was this requested by CIC??
my hubby neede to do his fingerprints for a job tis winter,he did it with the RCMP and it was a bit more than $60, it was not for free! check with them before

Sorry for making you confused, it's just the way they keep changing the waiting time (longer) and then when you call them for an update of your application they will tell you that you are still in the normal waiting time, well in fact that the usual time is 6-8 months.

Yup, we kind a wondering too and jealous for other's getting their AIP, we are thinking that since we are less than a year living together. We got married in May and start living together, then applied in July.

Bumping this. Anyone have any suggestions?
Matt Think I answer this, They will not issue a health card until you are paying taxes. They will ask your status here in canada, so in my situation, my only option is to buy a health insurance.

There is nothing in Bill C-24 that would indicate a change to the residency obligation. It's primary focus appears to be citizenship.

http://www.parl.gc.ca/HousePublications/Publication.aspx?Language=E&Mode=1&DocId=6410225&File=4

Note that this will increase the amount of time required for citizenship by no longer giving credit for time resident in Canada prior to obtaining PR as well as changing the current definitions for what is required to be eligible for citizenship.
