I didn't pay all the fee upfront and got both stages approved at the same time. The only difference I saw was when my notes came(January 1st week) my background/security checks were already in progress, which may have expedited the process. Also, I decided to do fingerprints pro-actively and sent them in second week of January.
Ok, so depending on your nationality you have to follow different procedures for the police checks, right?

I had to send my fingerprints and photocopies of identity documents to the Canadian Embassy in Mexico City, and they did the rest.

Alright I'm in :)

->> police checks were sent with application (no medicals yet)
->> not all the fees were paid upfront, still need the rest of the half
->> OWP was sent along but haven't received it yet (not impressed) :-\
->> Danish (as one of the very few I believe) :)
->> Calgary, Alberta (cow town)
->> not been asked for extra docs or anything in that nature
->> AIP but not yet DM!
Thanks Line!!

So in your case, it could've been the medicals and/or the fees... or only cause you're Danish, haha ;)

I don't think not changing your last name is that big a deal in this day and age. I wanted to keep my last name and I wasn't going to let an application change my mind.

This is a very subjective area. I was concerned about this in our own application as there were lots of red flag issues: my prior refusal, the fact my spouse's parents did not know about me, that we are 18.5 years apart age-wise, and there's a significant difference in income. I tried to pick a reasonable number of photographs that would demonstrate that our relationship was genuine. In addition to wedding and vacation pictures together I also picked photographs of ordinary life - like one of my dog (whom I've had since he was a puppy back in 2006) sleeping in my spouse's lap. We had other evidence, including communications between us before my first application was even submitted (e-mail and chat logs).

So it is subjective: you need to look at the evidence and ask how it will be observed by an impartial observer. If you think 300+ pictures are what it takes, then that's the right number to submit.

Using the spouse's last name is actually not considered by CIC. It cannot be, as it is not permitted in some Canadian provinces (Quebec) as a general rule. Couples routinely do not change their surnames (we didn't) and it should have no bearing on the application.

If you are applying inland, you must be living together. That's a statutory requirement of the class. I saw a refusal recently in which both people were in Canada, they just weren't living together (work issues). They were refused because the applicant wasn't living with the sponsor. If they had applied outland, they'd have finished before they were even refused for inland.

Good luck!

Hello people! Hope you all had a great weekend :)

I'm looking for some suggestions..

I had initially sent my application with everything in July 2013 but then realized my police certificates didn't make it to them before their 90 days deadline to be valid. So I just received my renewed police certificates which I'm hoping to mail CPC-V tomorrow. I also understand the risk/chance of them not being matched with my file.

So any tips on what info should I include with my police certificates so it's easy for them to match it with my file? So far I've thought of putting Both UCI's numbers of me and my spouse, the application number that came on the AOR letter and our names and date of births. Anything else I should consider?

Also I think I remember reading somewhere that additional documents can be sent to the same address the initial file was sent to? Is that correct?

Would appreciate any response from seniors and people who have done this before :)

Thank you!
