I'm from a visa exempt country...but I don't think I'd wanna risk leaving...If I leave and I have a visitor extension will that become void?charliem said:Well, if you or your husband (whoever is not Canadian or PR) is from a visa-exempt country, then I suppose there would not be much of a deal on re-entering.
As for the rest of us, when you leave Canada, you need a new TRV to re-enter. I wasn't lucky to get a multiple entry visa first time around.
I always understood that for some reason if you do Leave Canada, your PR application gets automatically terminated and you have to start from the beginning again?SmithyLinds said:Yes that's right......because he is visa exempt we had no issues. I was still very nervous leaving though because you just never know. I was only letting a few members know who asked me to write how it all went upon arrival back here. Its a question that has been asked many times on this forum so i was sharing our experience
I like the Island - Tofino/Uclulet is an amazing place to get away, with pristine beaches and great restaurants. Victoria is fun as well. We have friends on Salt Spring Island and I hear that's a very eclectic place to visit. Or head over to Banff and enjoy a spectacular national park. Where to do probably does depend on what you like to do for vacation.bankerguy said:its depressing...
19 months total time when you apply inland..... We wanted to go to Japan and Vegas next year..but now we dont want to run the risk of her leaving the country and not being allowed back in.
Where in Canada is a good place to vacation to?
I live in Vancouver..and no where else in Canada excites me :S

Sigh. No. It is a statutory requirement of the spouse in Canada class that you be living with your sponsor in Canada. If you leave Canada for vacation or a business trip, you have not "stopped living" in Canada. But if you are refused re-entry at the border at some point it will be obvious that you are not living with your spouse in Canada and thus do not meet the statutory requirement.Jamesdavid3 said:I always understood that for some reason if you do Leave Canada, your PR application gets automatically terminated and you have to start from the beginning again?

I would follow the 2012 inland thread as it seems more reliable because most applicants there do status updates and tell us when they get AIP, DM, and all that cool info! 2012 inland applicants have been getting AIP's for their apps sent up to November 20, 2012.Cirene said:OMG! Still Nov 4th? I just wanted an update! :'(
That is a very good point. I follow it as well.hockeyfan said:I would follow the 2012 inland thread as it seems more reliable because most applicants there do status updates and tell us when they get AIP, DM, and all that cool info! 2012 inland applicants have been getting AIP's for their apps sent up to November 20, 2013.
Obviously, meant 2012 in that date. Yeah, fair enough, to each his own!ACS said:That is a very good point. I follow it as well.
But it is nice to see on the official CIC site some movement as well...
Yeah I follow the 2012 applications as well! But it has been a quiet week for them (at least that's what it seems like)hockeyfan said:Obviously, meant 2012 in that date. Yeah, fair enough, to each his own!
I agree. It's just the fact that you risk not being let back in. But I went back to my home Country this August with my common-law and I could re-enter with no issues at all. As long as you have all your information at hand, there shouldn't be an issue. I wouldn't do it often though.computergeek said:Sigh. Nothing in the law or regulations says "you cannot leave Canada while you have an in-Canada application in process". It's just that for those who are risk adverse the chance of being refused re-entry is more than they are willing to accept. To be honest, I've never seen anyone report that they were refused re-entry when they had an active in-process in-Canada class application. I'm sure it's happened, but it doesn't seem to be common and I've read a number of people report they have taken short trips outside Canada while their application was in process.
