Hi guys, I have my SIN expired and I have my OWP now. Do I have to renew it? If so, could you please someone tell me what to bring. Do you think CIC Calgary is open on the 24th?

Thank you and have a wonderful Christmas everyone!

Take your OWP, old SIN# and government ID to a Service Canada office. They will renew your SIN#.

Why are you asking about CIC Calgary office? they're not responsible for issuing SIN#s

It still says certain, what does the certain means?

in the instructions it says only those who have legal status in Canada can apply for owp ("■the SCLPC applicant has valid temporary resident status (as a visitor, student or worker).")

However there is no requirement to have a legal status validated once you've applied for PR under family sponsorship. So the questions is whether those without a status but with AOR since December 2013 - are eligible to apply for OWP.

I wonder what this will do to the wait times?
I received AIP and submitted OWP application 11/24 and still waiting.
How long have others waited for OWP after AIP?

Im still waiting as well. Received aip on dec 15. Did you call cic to ask for owp? Did it make mention about your owp in aip letter? Mine only says, they will send another correspondence re owp?

What happens if you submitted the OWP application with the Common Law application

How would the CIC know that I have included the OWP application in my application as they are both together....

I am sure my application is inside a box with other applications who dont have a owp included, there is no way they can track it....

There is no way they will open each application and check...

this is really disappointing to all applicants who are out of status. however, it says if u apply inland, " there is no requirements to have a legal status ". What they gonna do with all out of status applicants? issue an open permit after AIP?

No, I submitted a paper OWP app. after AIP, so there was no mention of it in the AIP letter except that I could apply.
I have a temp res. permit until Feb 2015 so I have legal status and never was out of status. Just waiting.......

Aww my fault. I meant Service Canada's office. Thanks Linden

So those that are still waiting for aip, who have applied for OWP with PR should just sit tight and wait for our OWP in the mail? No need to submit anything?

Thanks to everyone who had the courage to put pressure on the government on this issue. It paid off. Passivity rarely does.

Can anyone in the Mississauga or GTA confirm how long it took you to receive your OWP in the mail after the AIP email which confirmed the issuance of the OWP?

Eric Laine UPDATE FROM Chris Day: "I am told that all applications in the system, (ie., they have a pending FC and open WP) will be blitzed in the new year. Applicants don't have to do anything. Anyone who hasn't submitted an open WP application follows the direction in the OB. Average processing will be 4 months as an upper limit. Meds are only required if the job requires it (medical profession, working with kids, etc)."

Hey guys its very nice to see the changes that cic has made in order to make the wait a little easier by issuing wp at aor for those who qualify . And to those without status be thankful that ur app was accepted because no one knows what will happen next year since it looks like you will not be able to apply inland if you do not have status.
