So I just received my Letter from Hamilton this morning... YAY \o/ !!!!!!

so it is a hardcopy letter in the mail. My landing interview is on Apr 4, 2014 (pls update the spreadsheet Screech)
by that time it will have been over 18 months since my application. Wow.

So the letter states that I have to bring copies of all documents issued by CIC... what does this include? all the emails, letters, visas, work permits, or what?

So thankful this process is nearing completion... Ready to start the next! Citizenship...

Landed in Hamilton this morning! BOOM! :P :P :P :P :P :P :P :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Congrats!

So I have a question related to taxes. This is my first year to file Canadian taxes as 2013 was my first year working here and having a SIN. But when I called CRA, they told me I need to file for 2012 as well even though I was on a visitor visa and had no SIN or residency in Canada. The lady told me I was taxable the moment I came into the country even though I was on a visitor visa at the time. Has anyone else run into this? Or did you just file for 2013?

My wife had to file for the year she was in Canada awaiting for PR as well. This is related to qualifying for child benefits.

Hello Everyone!
I am fairly new here and only got here because I`ve been trying to find some answers
and maybe you guys could help me find them.
I applied in 2012.april 26 my application was received on may 1 2012 first stage approval was on oct 16 2012
now ever since then i have not heard one single word from CIC. I called them in December only to find out what my lawyer
is been telling me it`s in process. I called again on Tuesday which was the first of april 2014 they said that it is still under
process but they have requested for security check on 26th of January 2014.
How long does Security checks take? I am from Hungary and never been outside of Hungary except for Canada of course
I dont understand why would it take so long does anybody has any idea? Please help me understand I am loosing my mind now.

thanks Vivi

Security checks can be the most time-consuming part of the process, unfortunately. They are not done by CIC, they are done by CJIS. These checks look for things that do not show up on a police report: ties to organized crime or racketeering, genocide, war crimes, terrorism, gangs, etc. The amount of time very much depends upon the specific country, available resources and queue size.

You can always submit an ATIP request to CJIS - it is less convenient than with CIC as there is no standard online mechanism, but the same law applies to them. Since you are in Canada, there would be n charge for such a request. Then you would at least know if they are done. Sometimes CIC does not hand off information from CJIS very well.

I have just had to do my zero 2012 and 2013 returns even though I only started work 10 weeks ago. They needed them as my husband had claimed me as a dependant through his.
Hopefully the next time I do them I'll have my PR as there's no movement at all on mine and even my MP was told by CIC that I just have to learn to be patient! :'(

Just do them. You wont pay any tax for that year. Apply for the GST rebate and you may even get some money back!
