Actuallly an email saying that the sponsor is qualified to sponsor you for PR is not an AIP letter. It is not addressed to the applicant. There are two different emails. One for the sponsor saying he/she mets eligibilty as a sponsor. It even says applicant for permanent residence will be processed separately and the applicant will hear from this office shortly. This is not the AIP letter.

The AIP letter will be addressed to the applicant saying you meet the requirement to apply for PR status as member of spouse or commonlaw in Canada class. Blah blah. followed by you may apply for an open work permit.

Just hate to burst your bubble. On the bright side, you should be getting an AIP anytime now.

How long does the applicant letter take though?
A day two week? This is driving me nuts to wait so long to hear some thing
and then.... Some more waiting! Happy but annoyed.

@screech she said before 5 days there's nothing she can do.

It sucks to see you having to wait 5 days before you call back for AIP again. You should have gotten AIP moments after your husband gotten his qualification email. Here's to hoping you get one in the next 24 hrs.

No problem Tomorisu,

Glad to be of help in clarifying the differences between sponsor email notice and applicant's AIP email.

In any case, when the sponsor gets his/her qualification as PR sponsor, it is good news as it means AIP email is soon to follow anytime.

Medical records are valid for 1 year. However CIC can grant 3-6 months extensions to the medical reports at their discretion if warranted under the circumstances.

Word of advice to PRs sponsoring common-law. Please wait at least 1 year after getting PR status. If you tried to sponsor for common-law relationship in less than a year after PR landing, the start of the 1 year common law will interfer with your PR process timeline. CIC will assume you started a relationship before PR is completed. It is like getting married before you gotten your PR completed.

So the longer you wait past the 1 year mark after getting PR, your PR status will not be in jeopardy when you file common-law sponsorship.
