serenity got DM and AIP at once
Make Sense. I don't know quebec procedure with CSQ. I would have thought CSQ is part of 2nd stage process. Thought DM can't be issued until CSQ is resolved. I guess I thought wrong. I got to say getting an AIP and DM be all done same day is pretty good especially after a CSQ trigger.

Unless serenity tells me otherwise I will update the sheet with same dates for AIP and DM

@screech

I have a good feeling inside of me that I'm gonna get both stages at the same time. I noticed from the spreadsheet that since recently folks who have gotten only AIP are those who didn't submit a medical with their applications. Therefore, CIC had to request it

Exactly same wording as the letter we got from Scarborough CIC. We got the time 8:15am. I wonder if we line-up there with others that are schduled for 8:15am as well or that is the time-slot dedicated to us only.

Also, when you finish your interview, can you let us know how it goes? Thank you :)
Hi,

Just had my Landing interview two days ago @ Saskatoon office. Went there with my wife and our 18 month daughter.

There were only three other families at our scheduled time with us. First we were all called to go into a conference room. There we sat down and the officer told us about the things you are and are not allowed as permanent resident. She also briefly explained the process of becoming canadian citizen. She also mentioned that until the PR Card arrives (which can take up to 2 months) you still should not travel, because the Confirmation of Permanent Residence is NOT VALID FOR TRAVEL. She said if there were travel plans to either cancel them or reschedule the interview to a later date after travel plans. Also that you can apply for a permanent SIN number as soon as you have the PR Card. You cannot get the permanent SIN with the Confirmation of Permanent Resident Form.

This was also the time to ask questions. She said it would be good to ask now because answering questions during interviews would just lengthen the process and they would like to get the paperwork done as fast as possible (nothing wrong with that in my opinion :) )

Then we had to go back to the lobby and the officer would call the names of the families in random order. When we were called, we were led into a interview room. The same officer who did the introduction in the meeting room wanted to see all our documents - passports and/or drivers license, sponsors ID, all immigration documents previously issued (work permit, visitor visa etc. - they will destroy those). She also took the 2 passport pictures.

Then I had to pay my Confirmation of Permanent Residence Fee of CAD $490.00. I paid with my credit card.

Then she started to ask me a couple of questions:
1. Have I ever been charged/convicted of a crime or offense in Canada
2. If I was refused admission to Canada
3. If I was required to leave Canada
4. If I had any dependent children in the world

After asking the questions I was to sign the Confirmation of PR Form and Initial my answers to the questions she asked me previously.

Then she said: "That is it, Welcome to Canada!"

Well, and that was it :) The interview was scheduled for 1pm. We walked into the office around 12:40pm and we were out at 1:50pm.

All in all a very good experience. The officer was friendly and it was really nice talking to her.

Very important note: It is your own responsibility to bring a translator to the interview if you do require one.

No need to be nervous about this interview at all.

Thanks Xanadu,

That was quite an inform details of your landing experience. Glad to know it went well without a hitch for you.

However I do dispute the agent's claim that you cannot get SIN until you get your PR card. You can apply for SIN with COPR. If you look at website http://www.servicecanada.gc.ca/eng/sin/apply/proof.shtml under primary documents for Permanent Resident. It says you can apply for SIN if you have COPR and visa counterfoil affixed to passport or just COPR and passport if you are from visa exempt countries.

There have been a few people that have landed and able to apply for SIN after landing on same day.

I would suggest that you print up the permanent resident document requirements and go back and show it to agent when you apply for SIN. I intend to print these info and take it with me to Landing Interview in case an agent claim to say that my wife cannot apply for SIN without PR Card.

@ canadaeh

What kind of travel plans do you have? If you are flying out, you may not be allowed back on the plane without PR card. The only valid ID airlines accept. However if you go into US by private car then you are likely to be accepted back into Canada as they can confirm your PR at the border. Whereas airlines/buses cannot validate your PR status thus they can get fined heavily for improper ID screening.

You could get away with it if you are from a visa exempted country as they don't bother checking for PR card as you are able to enter Canada without visas.

I intend to fly out a week after the interview for 2-3 months. My husband will fed-ex the PR card once it arrives. That way I will be able to reenter the country using my PR card.

Hi Screech,

I will try to get my permanent SIN asap but it shouldnt matter much anyway. The temporary is still valid too so there is no difference :)

Cheers

That approach would work since you plan to stay in Pakistan, I'm assuming here, for that long longer than CIC 53 day wait time for new PR card.

Hi Xanadu!

While the temporary SIN is still valid, at least with the Permanent SIN, you won't have to memorize any new number and it is nice to have a card without "9" as first digit.

Canadaeh,

I hope it will work out with your timing. You have not even gotten a landing date yet. With July coming up and an almost 2 month wait time for PR card to arrive. You are pushing your luck. Worst come to worst if you get landing done before July and you can then go to Philippines after. But you may have to remain there until your spouse fed-ex your PR card so you can return.

I did a bit of checking into leaving Canada without PR card. On the CIC website it says that if you must leave Canada before getting PR card, you can apply to get a travel document at the canadian embassy of your home country to be able to return to Canada without a PR card.

I can provide you the link if you need it. Hard to copy and paste link on your mobile phone. LOL.
