Guys,

I have been interviewing for jobs. And also waiting for OWP. Is it possible that companies allow to work, while we are waiting for OWP? I called CIC they said I can expect my OWP in two weeks time. And Currently I am on study permit. I could have also applied for Post grad work permit, but opted for OWP as I got AIP. Has anybody in this scenario before. I have this really good job offer, and dont want to lose it becasue of this OWP wait. Any help on this matter will be appreciated please!!

Well,I am not sure they will hire you if you don't have the OWP. the first question will be - do you have permit to work and until you don't have it in your hands the permit you are not allowed legally working in Canada.
I honestly am facing with some issues because I am with temporary SIN instead a regular one. well probably because I am searching for quite good jobs like financial sector, banks and so on.

Hey gang, so I just submitted an application with schools in my area to substitute for the district.

Here's my question. I am awaiting the AIP & OWP from my PR application to go through. As such, I would then need to apply for a Work Permit with this school division as my employer. Does the work permit require security clearances from countries I've lived in for longer than 6 months?

Until you have an OWP, the employer would need to obtain an LMO allowing them to hire a foreign worker. With a positive LMO and job offer, you have two choices: (1) you can go to the border and "flag pole" (enter the US or if not a US Citizen or PR obtain an "administrative refusal") and then turn around and come back into Canada. In that way you obtain your work permit pretty much immediately; or (2) you can submit your application (same one you used for the OWP in fact) to CIC asking for a change from "visitor" to "worker".

The problem is that obtaining a positive LMO takes 2-4 months, so by the time the district obtained such an LMO you'd have your OWP in the first place...

If you are a US or Mexican Citizen, you might qualify under NAFTA which is very quick and easy. Sadly, elementary and secondary teachers generally do not qualify for NAFTA either. Now if you have a degree in one of the specified categories and get a job (even a teaching job) requiring that degree it DOES apply. For example, if you have a bachelor's in mathematics (NAFTA listed) and the job requires that you have a bachelors in Mathematics (in addition to anything else) THEN you wouldn't need an LMO at all. You just pick up the work permit at the border or via the inland application process.

Hello Rusty. Just thought I would let you know that we applied for my wife's OWP online on December 26 and received it in the mail today so it should not be necessary to re-do your application via mail!

I noticed that CIC is working on OWP for the end of December. If my online request is any good it will come up in about 2 weeks. I believe downwinder was told an online application was ok. I think I will take my chances and wait for another couple of weeks and see if I get approved. I will let you know how it works out.

I have been in canada for more than a year. And I din include canadian police certificate with my application.

If you and your family members who are 18 years of age and older and are not permanent residents or Canadian citizens have to provide:

a valid police certificate, or
police clearance, or
record of no information.
These documents are to be provided for each country other than Canada, in which you have lived for six consecutive months or longer since reaching the age of 18.

I mailed my application to sponsor my common law spouse (who is in Canada) and his two girls ( who are still in Jamaica) in October they received it October 15th and notified me by email on December 18th that they have begun processing or. That's all I know so far. I would like to be added to the timeline.

RR VDB, you are the best. You just made my weekend. I sent my wife's OWP online on January 15th. I am now hopeful that she will have her OWP in hand in a couple of weeks.

You can come and go now, you just risk being refused re-entry. With a work permit the risk is lower.

No, you don't need a job. Just a work permit.

My ecas didn't work for 2 week , now i got it back up a few days ago.I noticed that my sponsorship says in process again.
Did this happen to anyone? I don't worry too much , i am just curious.

I had the same issue, it stopped working for 2 weeks and when it was working again it says in process in the sponsorship, then after 2 days it says decision made and PR application in process so you don't have to worry about it.
