@ Rusty Yes, you were not supposed to submit it online. It was supposed to be sent in with proof that you applied for PR like the file number and your sponsor's UCI. When you mail it in it will be attached to your file so when the officer starts to process your file he can approve an OWP when you are eligible to be sponsored. On the top of the application you must write Open Work Permit- spousal sponsorship in canada class so they will know that thee applications are related and get assessed at the same time. So I would write a letter with my file numbers to CIC, send with another completed copy of the OWP and tell them that you submitted it online but later heard thats not the correct procedure. Ask them to attach it to your file

Just so I am clear; what is the actual document # I need to submit?

@Rusty with the completed application of an OWP, please include a letter telling them that you submitted an OWP online but that was the incorrect procedure, for the inland sponsorship OWP application. So you will have to show proof that you already sumbitted a PR application. So in the attached letter, please iclude your sponsor's 8 digit UCI # anf your application # starting with an F............... Ask them to attach it to your file. Did you get AIP yet

I guess it may be time for me to wade in on the OWP issue. I also submitted an OWP online in mid January. By reading all of the posts it would appear as though I was also in err by sending my application online for an OWP. If this is the case it looks as though I may have to resubmit a paper application (how archaic). Am I right or not? Help please.

You can log in on the website and withdraw the application and send a paper application with the same receipt, or to be sure pay a new 150$ processing fee and then ask for a refund for the first one. Although 2nd stage seems like 5 months for most people now. Processing of the new work permit will take you over 2 months.

Why don't you submit it together with a copy of the AIP email of the applicant, That will for sure tie your open work permit application with the sponsorship.

I sent my OWP renewal application online together with the AIP and the details of my sponsor. An agent in the telephone told me that it is the same online / paper application...the agent indicated me that online was even faster.... and you get instant confirmation that they have received it.
Make sure you reply the right answers in the questions that you are asked before starting the application. The system asks for different documents depending on your answers.

Andrea, I thought you might like my new signature ;D

@thatgirl123 welcome yah so mon! Do you have some jerk chicken and rum and raisin ice cream for us here. Jamaica all the time! No problem mon. Are you and your huzzy Jamaicans? Or its only him? Good to know we have the same timeline? How far are you along the journey? Have you gotten AIP yet?

@VanSquirrel - thanks for the helpful signature. It is awesome to be able to get answers.

@ MissCanada - in the 5 times you went back to Canada did the immigration officers ask you about your application for PR? Did you tell them before they asked? or did you just got in as a visitor?

You are all super generous, as I realize I should be in a 2013 forum thread and not here, since we will apply next month only.

Wish you all the best of luck.

Lesson of the day : For people sending an inland sponsorship , SEND IT WITH AN OPEN WORK PERMIT application. It gives implied status, and will give you the open work permit right after AIP (6 months).

Doesn't having the AOR for your PR application grant you Implied Status until you get a DM?

AIP - "Approval in Principle" (first stage approval)
AOR - "Acknowledgement of Receipt" (CIC has your application, here's your file number)
OWP - "Open Work Permit"

how long are medicals good for?
