Marriage on your mind for immigration? Think again

Married newcomers to Canada better be in love or be prepared tough it out in the relationship for two years if they don't want to be kicked out of the country.

Citizenship and Immigration Canada is changing Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations to make a sponsored spouse stay in the relationship for at least two years once they receive permanent residence status, or they have to leave Canada.

"For two years, you have to stay married," said Winnipeg Liberal MP Kevin Lamoureux, who heard the news on Valentine's Day as a member of the standing committee on Citizenship and Immigration. The government is bringing into force regulatory changes to deter marriage fraud, he said.

It will impose a two-year "conditional residency" on sponsored spouses, common-law partners and conjugal partners. If they don't stay in a bona fide relationship, they'll be removed by the Canada Border Services Agency, he said. Jilted spouses may be happy to see them get the heave-ho but victims of violent spouses could be in jeopardy, critics say.

Okay people. I want to be part of the Feb 2012 Inland Applicants. My application is now complete, and ready to be mailed. Guys, if you can please comment on my components of my application, and advise of anything else I should add/remove.

My name is Sara, applying inland for my spouse. We got married 18 months ago, and now have a beautiful 6 month old daughter. She is also a Canadian citizen, and hence not included in the Generic Application as she does not need to be sponsored. She is included in my husband's additional family information though.

I have all the completed applications +

I am attaching the following Photos:
-Photos of our engagement ceremony (2009)
-Photos of our pre-wedding functions
-Photos of our Wedding Ceremony + Reception attended by over 800 people
-Post wedding photos
-Honeymoon Pics
-Pregnancy Pics
-Pics in Hospital at Birth of Baby
-Family Pics

Since i was no T4 because I wasn't working, I am attaching proof of savings, plus proof of income from bank accounts where i receive monthly interest, + Pay stubs of my husband's income when he was working in the last year

Attaching a copy of my wedding invitations

Attaching Proof of Gift Deed (Residential Property my husband gifted me after our wedding)

Copy of his Visit Visa / Passport

Copy of our Marriage Certificate

Copy of my citizenship Card

Our Family Health Insurance Policy

Birth Certificate/Canadian Passport of my daughter

Emails/SMS exchanged between each other

Application to university of new Brunswick since im planning to continue education here?

Should i Include anything else? What's missing...?

Do you think that the fact i wasn't in Canada last 3 years is going to make a problem for my application? ... I was studying abroad, got married, and then couldnt come cuz i was pregnant.. so now i came after i had my baby

And one more thing guys... do i fill Use of Representative form even if im not taking any services of a lawyer?

Please Advise you guys! Thanks for all your support people, couldn't have done a thing without you people and this forum

Hello everybody!

My fiance and I are on our way to completing all the forms and collecting all the papers needed to apply for PR. He's a Canadian citizen and will be sponsoring me as his wife- we're planning on getting married soon (March? April?). My current visa (w-1) expires on March 13, whereas my work permit (International Experience Canada, which is full of restrictions) expires on May 10.

In order to stay here legally, I believe we need to apply one month before the expiry of my legal staus in the country... which would be the work permit, correct? If it was the visa, we're in trouble

Anyway, we'll be applying in the next 2 months, so we'll be Inland 2012!

Much patience to us all with this process ;D

Hi everybody....holy smokes i been reading ALOT....anyways im about to send in my application....

i have a couple questions to ask...i read so much already on the websites but cant find accurate yes or no answers

so my first question is... in the application where it asks how long have i been living with my husband (my current address) on the frm start date - "to date"...what date do i put? the day im gonna send it in? or the day my vistor pass expires? or do i just write "current" because when i send in the app, ill still be living with him at that same address.

second question..where it ask for my client number and document number...which is the document number? (i knw which is the client number) is it the big number in red in the top right corner?

and final important answer...i need a yes or a no...when i send in my app...do i send in my extension app with it, or separate??...and i have read i can ask for up to a year where it asks wut date i want to extend to...this correct?

thank u guys so much for ur time!!

Hi there. Here are my answers to questions 1 and 3:
ANSWER to #1: Here's what I did.
1. I filled up the FROM field using computer
2. I did not use computer to write on the TO field. But I manually filled it up using a pen and wrote "PRESENT".
3. Then I attached a sheet of paper as annex and wrote there : SUPPLEMENT TO SPOUSE QUESTIONNAIRE, ITEM 4. Period of cohabitation. January 1, 2005 to present. (write your own date, ok? This is just an sample date).

ANSWER TO #3: As long as you send your PR application BEFORE the expiry date of your status, you are not required to renew your visitor visa because CIC says that you will be given an IMPLIED status once your PR is sent to them BEFORE your visitor status expires. The visitor status expires within 6 months after your airport arrival stamp date on your passport. Example, if you arrived here on january 1, 2012, your visitor status will expire on july 1, 2012. So make sure you send your PR application before July 1, 2012 to CIC and you will be eligible for the APPLIED STATUS.

But if you want to send a visitor extension application, it's fine too. Pay $75 online and atttach all papers necessary. In the REASON FOR APPLYING FOR EXTENSION FIELD in the application form, just write: "I am applying for PR under IN Canada Class. And it is required that both I and my sponsor should be physically inside Canada during the processing of my application". Someting like that.
As I've said in the preceding paragraph, if you renew your visitor visa after july 1, 2012, the fee will no longer be $75. Instead it will be $200 because you will now apply for restoration of status.

I second some of this.
My fiance and I were thinking, can we send a CD with all the pictures and such? We have a lot of trips and special occasions to account for!
