Transit information

  • If you are travelling from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh and plan to transit through Abu Dhabi, you must have a negative COVID-19 PCR test taken within 72 hours of departure before your first flight departure time. Due to restrictions in place by the Indian authorities, you will only be able to transit to destinations in Africa until further notice.
You need to have a COVID-19 PCR test before you fly to Abu Dhabi, even if you are just transiting. Check the regulations at your final destination to understand where and when to take your test.
In Abu Dhabi, you will arrive at Terminal 2 and board directly from here. Lounge facilities will be unavailable until further notice.
For new bookings, the maximum connection time in Abu Dhabi is 12 hours.
Read more about transiting in Abu Dhabi.

Does anyone know about the source for "Due to restrictions in place by the Indian authorities, you will only be able to transit to destinations in Africa until further notice." ? I couldn't find such a circular or directive from any Indian authority.

Did anyone travel via Qatar airways? Could you please advise if they have a covid pcr test centre at the airport? I don't seem to find it in their website. If it's available, how long would it take for result ?

I think you meant indirect travel lengthens the amount of time spent on transit and if anything, increases exposure and risk of infection.
If the GoI was serious about helping its own citizens, they could have offered covid testing at let's say New Delhi international airport for all passengers taking a direct flight to Canada. Let all passengers travel to Delhi/Mumbai 3 days prior to scheduled departure, stay in a pre approved hotel, get tested at an authorized testing centre perhaps attached to the airport, obtain a negative result prior to flying. Charge the flyer a premium for the tests if you must. Still better than the anguish of flying halfway around the world
Canada is not accepting Covid test result from India then Why they will allow it even if Covid testing is available on the airport after hotel stay ?
These requirements are from Canadian government so GOI can not do anything in this matter.

those things never work anyway, the incubation time of Covid in bodies can be upto 14 days or sometimes even more, you'll never be completely sure if someone has covid or not, hotel quarrantine or not, we will have to learn to live with this virus, sooner or later.
True but if it takes you a few days of not more to get to Canada and another PCR test you will likely catch some more cases although I don’t trust officials in Ukraine, Ethiopia, Mexico, etc. to actually stop people with covid because they don’t want visitors with covid either. Given that the amount of visitors coming into Canada increased dramatically last week (and those are the only ones who public health connected to flights) the covid tests are still not coming close to stopping covid from entering Canada. Although many infected are from US flights they could be originating from numerous countries.

They do accept Indian PCR tests but they want another one in transit because you may not have been infected 72 hours before your flight or may not have a large enough viral load.

Ok let’s think about it this way- let’s say I take a direct flight from New Delhi to Toronto.. would my PCR test be accepted at Pearson Airport? No it wouldn’t be
There are no direct flights but you do need your initial Indian PCR test to board a flight with onward travel to Canada. Doesn’t mean the Indian PCR test is not accepted it just means that Canada has banned direct flights.

What if someone has connecting flight from third country and departure is within 72 hour of RT-PCR test taken in India.
According to you this test is valid to board flight to Canada , right ?
