Indian passport surrender

Hi,
I applied for the Surrender of my passport. I had the passport picked up by Purolator and it was received Jan-12.
The status online shows Jan-16 and it says it's under processing on the BLS site.
I was reading on this forum and people are checking on the passport seva website as well.
When I go to track it under the passport seva website, where can I find the file number?
Is the file number the same number as the reference application number? When I put the reference number it says no record found.

The surrender application you created in the passport seva tool will have a column for ARN (22-200xxxx) next to it is the column for File No.
Once the application is submitted you will notice the File No being updated. If you have submitted application with Toronto/Brampton e.g. it would begin with CATSCxxxx
If you see that File No, click on column select which will open an option to "track application status"

Hi, can someone please help me with the questions I have for surrender certificate. I am still waiting on my passport, and dint wanted to waste any time given that OCI process does take time. Can I apply for surrender certificate without having Canadian passport in hand? If yes, then can I book an appointment in BLS and submit both surrender certificate and visa application together?
You can apply for surrender certificate without Canadian passport. You need to include a self declared letter that you do not have Canadian passport yet

But since you don’t have a Canadian passport how will you apply for visa ?
Another option which I would suggest you to look at is the eVisa. This has already been reinstated so once you have your Canadian passport apply for it from your home: https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/evisa/tvoa.html

Right that is true. Also can I apply for urgent Canadian passport with the reason that I will need to apply for oci and for that I will need the passport?
As long as you are a Canadian citizen and have the citizenship certificate available you can apply for a Canadian passport.
You dont need reasons like OCI/Visa etc to apply for the Canadian passport.
Good part is that these days processing time for standard (non expedited/urgent) passport application processing is less than 2 weeks if you apply through Passport Canada office (walkins are accepted without any immediate travel needs). https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/canadian-passports.html
Passport application submitted through mail or through service canada takes a bit more time...
Sorry I meant for urgent passport request you need to provide the reason. So can we use OCI as a reason?
Reason for urgent passport. OCI is not one of them.
- an airline, bus or train ticket
- If travelling by car, a written statement explaining why you need to travel
- a travel itinerary showing proof of payment
- proof of illness or death in the family requiring you to travel
- a written statement from you or a third party explaining why you need the passport
- For example, for legal, banking or residency requirements
OCI is not a reason.
For urgent travel Passport Canada may ask you to provide a ticket booking/intermarry/hotel booking etc.
If you wanna go this route best is to do a hotel booking to a nearest city in the US. e.g. you can select a hotel option with free cancellation sites like Booking.com etc will be able to provide you this option. Your credit card will not be charged until the cancelation date.
Print it, take it along with your passport application and apply..
Hi all, how to get appointment for in person Indian passport surrender? Tried the BLS website , if I click on open dates in the calendar , It gives a notification appointment not available? This is for Brampton location..
Also are walk ins happening? Is the line still too long?
