Hi Guys,

For proof of funds, I have done a fixed deposit today for Rs 8,00,000, and I have got a certificate for that.

So do I Just take a photo copy of this certificate and add it to my application? Or do I need to do any thing else?? The certificate only has the amount in Rupees. So will the visa officer in Canada, need any other document to show its equivalence in $$$$'s????

Kindly let me know.

Many Thanks

You can show POF in INR.

I included a separate letter addressing Visa Officer with CAD equivalent amount as per the conversion rate on RBC website.
Also photocopies are not accepted. Get a account statement from bank with seal and sign of branch manager.

Hey thanks for your reply.

The bank only issues one certificate for fixed deposit. Its some kind of colourful certificate, which is issued by the bank and can not be taken out online. It doesn't not issue multiple certificates. So, that means I have to send only the photocopy of my original certificate with the branch managers stamp and seal.

Would that be fine?

Also does the photocopy have to be coloured or black and white will do??

This fixed deposit I just got done recently. So is that going to be a problem??

its not a statement, but a certificate issued by the bank for getting a fixed deposit done with them.

You can give a certified copy of your FD certificate. Alternatively, you can ask for a balance certificate that will have your FD details and send it in original. Both of the docs need to be signed and stamped in original.

Such certificates are il issued for a purpose like affidavit so need to be submitted original. Most of the banks send the FD advise on mail and / or by post. In case you want to send photocopy than attach the monthly FD statement and get it verified and stamped by bank. But I'll suggest to send original. As far as currency is concerned there is no problem. They convert it the way you convert e.g. xecurrency

It is not possible to send the original of FD document. As for currency. You cannot have a arbitrary exchange rate. All Fees and their equivalent INR is given online on official website.

I am sharing my experince. HDFC gave me FD certificate with principle amount and equivalent CAD as per their selling rates. CIC use xecurrency as far as I know (shared by one Canadian lawyer). Currency always has 2 rates one for buying which is less and one for selling which is high. So no arbitrary rates are possible. Moreover rates always vary and what is mentioned in CAD is the prevailing rates on that perticular time. I was having 2 certificates one for FD and one for savings. I made an excel sheet on top of them for the purpose of ease of works. One may choose his own way as finally its his/her application.
