Wondering if folks wanna share their experience with eVisa for India? e.g. how much time it took to get eVisa, any challenges they faced etc.?

This may have been asked before—I apologize if that’s the case.
For applying for a E-visa to India, do I have to surrender my Indian passport first? I’m not applying for OCI yet, just a visa.

Thanks

You can apply for an Indian visa without surrendering your Indian Passport. I applied for visa and surrender the same day at BLS Brampton.

Thanks for your reply, I was wondering why didn't you apply for 5 years evisa, is the cost or procedure different for it?
No idea. Didn't investigate it - just assumed that a 1-5 yr approval would take longer. Had to book a ticket for some urgent work; hence 30 days.

I need to be in India for 2.5 months, waiting for surrender certificate to apply for OCI.
Has anyone stayed more than 2 months using eVisa?

under FAQs
What is the validity of e-Visa?
  • For e-Tourist Visa (01 year / 05 years), the validity would be 365 days / 05 years from the date of grant of ETA with Multiple entries and Maximum stay in India during one Calendar Year should not exceed 180 days.
  • For e-Tourist Visa (30 days), the validity would be 30 days from the date of your first arrival in India. Double entries will be granted within the e-Visa validity period stamped on your Passport. Your first arrival must be between the date of issue and expiry of ETA.

Hi, how was your travel experience ... Does it matter if you have to travel let's say after submitting docs for passport surrender but before you get the surrender certificate

On arrival in India they didn't ask about our previous citizenship, even though they can see place of birth as India and know. I was photographed and finger printed, so was my daughter. Immigration wasn't an issue as much as the overall airport experience in Delhi was. On the way back we arrived at the airpor, 4 hours prior to departure and made it to the plane only on the final call!

Can somoene please help that for eVisa (1-5 yrs), what are the documents needed to be submitted. I dont have any reason to travel urgent, but I have aging parents there, and OCI takes 3 months to be processed. So I would need to have an eVisa handy. But can I get it without any Ticket ?
