Increase in CIC Processing times

Heres something to throw out there.
In January the waiting time was half what it is now. It all started in Febuary, yes there was a big influx in febuary, but CIC M really are moving stupidly slow. So here it is, maybe this extra waiting time is sort of deliberate. Theres no doubt recently the Canadian Immigration is under siege from applications. (Suddnly its the place to be)! The recent changes in the immigration laws trying to stem the Fraudulent use of the Family class. Its not a huge step further to think that the doubling of Process times is another level to slow and ease the nubers of immigrants??
Peoples thoughts on the matter please.

I think it has to do with spending cuts, closing of offices and reduction of workforce. There might be spikes in Applications and they have higher impact with less officers working. Debating it will not help us, It is what it is. I do not think it is deliberately done to reduce the number of immigrants. That would be something they would control better through tougher and longer step 2 process.

Spending cuts have an impact on everything. The longer the process becomes though, the more offputting the whole idea is. Especially to those who may not be genuine, for instance someone who may be making a living out of marrying for immigration wont do so well the longer it takes.

Rosie, you give CIC too much credit, IMHO. They're not smart enough to hatch such a scheme.

I doubt this is a deliberate attempt to reduce the number of applications. It's probably a combination of factors that have never been seen in the past.

I only hope that they get to my application and approve it without any stupid or silly delays. Chances are there is bound to be something I missed, so I hope the VO just ignores it and approves my sponsorship + my wife's visa. We want out of here so badly. I don't care what I end up doing in the first year or two...as long as we are together and in Canada, that's all that matters at this stage!

I wonder what it is that has made Canada suddenly so appealing. Apart from the beautiful scenery, laid back culture and SPACE!!!! Or that its major cities are consistently ranked in the top 5 best places to live.
It used to be uthe US that got the attention, but that seems to have changed. Maybe its a result of Overseas Policies.
Ive been married to my Canadian husnband for almost 20 years. its purely down to changes in circumstances and changes in your priorities as you get older that have led us to this decision now. But as i have watched this over the years IMHO there has been a dramatic change.

I really don’t think the longer waiting period is due to the influx of applications; they’ve had applications waiting for the last 8 years. Since the 1990s people have been trying to immigrate to Canada due to its stability and this is a well known fact; the Canadian government really needed immigrants at that point to support its economy; so they approved a lot of people initially but now they are slowing down because they know they are offering something no one else is so they have made the waits longer to make it seem like more than usual people are applying; I think they are using the club syndrome, you know how you go to a club and there are tons of people standing outside waiting and you decide to go there thinking it must have something special to attract this many people but once you get in you realize it was just a scheme to get you in. I think they are really playing that card and they are playing it well. Just my 2 cents.

I agree with Fencesitter, it's not a deliberate scheme. It took 'two years' for my parents in the 1950's . . . and it's STILL 'two years' generally speaking and with obvious exception. It just feels longer once we get in line to join that "club" alluded to by 'heybuddy'. My 1 cent.
