To me it seems like CIC simply getting better at recording people as "In process" so that it actually means what it's always meant to have.

As far as I can tell people who have seen IP recently either:
a) Have just got sponsor approval
or
b) Are later in the process and have had documents requests or some other adjustment to their application (eg. an address change)

So basically if an officer somewhere has opened your application in the last month or so it's now being recorded as being In Process

Still maybe a little too early to tell if this is definitely the case but it's my best guess anyway!

I think Visa offices around the world are mandated by CIC main office to update current applications they received.. Just a wild guess.

I just hope that after the VO requests for Medical and Police Clearances, they won't be asking for more documents. Does any1 here has the idea as to what would possibly be the next step in my case? Thanks in advance. Let's all Hope and keep praying for the best.. great things are yet to come!!

I am assuming your from the Philippines which is not visa exempt, they will ask for passport request once you get that you are essentially approved and they will be shipping out the COPR.

Chellycat, we also applied in February with outland forms (US spouse sponsorship). Our application just changed to in process last week and they have requested proof that sponsor still resides in Canada, and like you have there is a line that says application was started to be processed April 24th. So I think this is legit, and something is happening.

After our ECAS status changing to "In process" two weeks ago there's now an additional line on the second page when you click through

"We started processing your application on 20th April 2015"

So about the same time it arrived in Ottawa after getting sponsor approval which makes total sense, but no idea why it would take so long to update.

Has anyone else seen this before where the application changes to In Process" but then you get an additional line showing it's been processing for months?

I'm curious if the ones who got IP that applied in May and June 2015 got the third line stating we started to process your application on xxxx date. I think once the third line is there, the finish line is closer and someone has actually viewed the file.

I'm a June 1st applicant and I have the third line. Just showed up today when I checked.

i am the one who applied in june 2nd, 2015 and third line added today as per below.

I dont know its good sign or what, but seems file keep moving.

I checked and ecas has been updated as per below

Permanent Residence
We received xxx application for permanent residence on June 2, 2015.
We started processing xxx application on August 10, 2015.
Medical results have been received.

I got that same email almost a month ago though, and still no progress. (Which I know isn't that long in the grand scheme of things, but I was really expecting DM within 2 weeks after getting that email and then shortly after going IP... )

Yeah...I think it means literally that they are starting to process your application....so the beginning of the process not near the end...

I think previously...they were late to update this in the ECAS for people...which made it seem like it was near the end of the process rather than the beginning.

So maybe now they are finally following the proper procedures....

So I guess I have to believe my friend who told me before that paperworks and documentation process of my application has been done and CIC is now ready to do the background check when VO requested me to have medical exam and thereafter my Saudi Police Clearance, respectively-- and that I just need to wait for the VO to request for my original passport... though they requested me also to send a copy of my passport along with my police clearance. I just hope and pray I will be approved to get the passport request... Thanks again Jam!!

Hello Guys, I am from Perú and I got married in my country 5 months ago with a canadian citizen, my husband is living in Canada right now and i am living in Peru, we send the application for the Assessment of Sponsor on June, and when i check the status at the CIA Web Page said that was received on June 25 and started to process it on July 28. Someone know how long it takes have an answer? because when i check the status today, still saying "in process". Thanks!

That right, unless they request the PPR in the beginning of the process then take that with a grain of salt, if they did not they will conduct criminality and security checks that is if you have passed the stage where the visa officer believes your relationship is genuine once those three things are done and your medicals are satisfactory, you will submit your physical passport to the VO and once they return the passport back to you, your COPR will arrive within weeks if not earlier.

I guess we can expect the same scenario... They do say it takes about 8 months for 2nd part after sponsorship approval. So maybe october-november?
