Hi all,

I'm a Canadian living in New Zealand with my husband (whose is from NZ). We are planning on moving back to Canada next year, and due to some complications with the flights & finances - we are wondering if my Father can apply to be sponsor my husband instead of me? It doesn't seem clear on the immigration website what the rules are, so just wondering if any of you know.

If I am the only who can sponsor him for PR, do you suggest doing this from outside Canada, or once we get there? Just looking for some advice on how to get started :)

Thanks!

Hi

No, your father can't sponsor him. Submit an outland application now from NZ.

Definitely submit an outland application for Spousal Sponsorship. The official processing time for New Zealand is 10 months, but it could be much faster.

Thanks for that, do I need to provide airline tickets to prove that we will be in the country at the same time? Or can I submit an application without them?

You don't need to provide tickets but you do need to prove that you will be returning to Canada.
