In-land landing documents

Got to the last step of the process! I got an in-land landing appointment in CIC office (no need to get out and back in across borders)

It says the appointment is an "interview"?

  • What sort of "interview" should I be prepared for
  • Other that the Confirmation of PR, Passport and pictures - what other documents do I need to bring?

From my timeline you can see I am still in the process. My suggestion is for you to take copies of all the documents you submitted when filing your PR application.

This way even if they don't ask for the documents at landing everything you are presenting is consistent with everything you submitted.

I landed on May 4 at a local IRCC office (Kitchener ON). This is a super fast "interview" (literally 2 minutes in my case). They just want to make sure that the details on the CoPR are correct. Make sure they are. If there are any issues, let them know so they may correct it. They will ask you for an address where the PR card will be mailed. Make sure the address is reliable. Also, BRING 2 NEW PR PHOTOS. I got asked for those, even though I sent them 2 for my CoPR. Your IRCC interview confirmation email should contain all required docs. Also, just in case, bring an updated proof of funds in case you're FSW (I didn't get asked for it, but I had an updated bank letter with me). If you're CEC you don't need it. Don't be stressed out, it will be super fast and smooth.

And I agree with @JoacRy, to feel safe, bring whatever you believe is related to the application. You can pack a lot in your backpack :) Just show additional docs only if asked, but in general you will only be asked for Passport, CoPR, 2 PR photos and perhaps proof of funds.

Great question, +1! I had the exact same question before. The answer is NO, you cannot choose the office. IRCC will choose the one that's closest to you, so it will probably be the Hamilton IRCC office. To get an appointment, you call them at 1-888-242-2100 (then wait a bit and press 7, then 0). The IRCC agent will then make a note on your file, then you'll get an email or phone call from the local IRCC office with the date of the interview. In my case, I got the email 3 days after the call, and the landing was scheduled within a week. If you're lucky and get to land in Kitchener, expect to get a landing date within 7-10 days. But probably Hamilton is not too busy either, so you should get a landing date soon. The agent will tell you that it may take up to 4 weeks, but they say this just to be on the safe side. As a side note, you CANNOT schedule an interview before you get the CoPR in the mail, as you will be asked for the Document No. from the CoPR.

One quick question. If you renew your OHIP after landing with co-pr, will there be 3 months waiting period for inland applicants who had been living in Canada for few years with OHIP. My work permit expires in sep'16 and OHIP too. I hope that i will have landed by that time and renew my OHIP. I think 3 months waiting period applies for out landers but not sure for in lander.

If you already have OHIP, there is no need to wait 3 months. After landing, you just go to Service Ontario and renew it, they will send a new card in the mail which will be valid for 5 years.

Hi Vsoftco
Thanks for sharing your experience. +1
You have mentioned that youre in Kitchener, I'm inland OINP nominee from AB. We're moving to Mississauga, ON by June. I just want to ask about OHIP, my daughter is Canadian and my spouse and I has OWP, can we all apply for Ontario health card and how long before we can use the health service? We currently have an active Alberta Health card. Any idea?
Thanks!

Once you move to ON with your family you can all apply for OHIP, they will need work permits from you and probably passport/birth certificate for your daughter, and also a proof of address in ON. I believe there may be a 3 months waiting period for newcomers to the province (i.e., your OHIP will start to be valid 3 months after you apply), but I'm not absolutely sure if this applies to Canadian Citizens as well (most likely it does). In any case, when you move here, pay a short visit to Service Ontario first thing in the morning (when they open, so you won't have to wait), and they will tell you exactly all the details.

If you're applying for an OHIP using a WP, there are only certain Service Ontario centres that will process them, usually the larger ones. We live in Markham and, although we have 2 centres within 5 mins drive of us, we had to go to a centre in Scarborough that processes OHIP under a WP. Phone up and check to see which ones in Mississauga you can go to.

Very useful. I called the IRCC on 28th June, 2017 and still waiting to hear back from IRCC Kitchener. Would it be odd to call the IRCC Kitchener if I do not hear anything after one more week?
