Immigration Consultant or by yourself??

Hi everyone! We are planning on either will apply for a Inland Common Law or Spousal PR in few months from now depending in our personal situation. And I am in the point now that i'm so confuse weather I will have a Immigration Consultant or I'll just gonna do all the paperworks and other things to be done by myself.

Please I need everyone's opinion, how you guys did yours? What do you think its better? Pros and cons will be so much appreciated. Thank you so much in advance!!!

Sit down and take your time its not difficult to accomplish on your own., Plus consultants do not make anything faster even tho some openly mention it. CIC is the one in control of these applications. Follow the steps and any questions just ask here. We have a very good and knowledgeable group.

You may also want to consider an OUTLAND application as it is normally much quicker then INLAND..

Are you currently here in Canada? how about your spouse? Where is your spouse originally from ?

Thank you! I am currently here in Canada. That's why it is much advisable for me to apply Inland and my fiance is Canadian. We've been living together for more than a year now. I had an appointment today with a consultant and she just mostly told me the informations that I almost knew. But still I am glad to talked with an experienced. But then the fees makes me think if I'll go through or not. So expensive!

Outland you can. Outland if an interview is requested you may have to go back to your own country for it. That would be about the only down fall I think of for an outland app.

and if you are denied like we were, (outland) you will have to wait YEARS to get back to Canada. A lot should depend on the country one's partner is coming from ---- do they need a visa to get back here ?

My spouse and I used a consultant. Yes is is expensive but for my husband he gets very stressed by paperwork of any kind so for him/us it meant having someone help us answer all the questions completely and another set of eyes to look everything over. It took the stress off so my husband would not worry so much. I know now that it would have been better for us to apply for me outland rather than inland but even though it is a much longer process I figure there is some reason why God had us do the inland instead of outland. I have been able to leave and re-enter Canada since we sent in our applications. I have had no issues with it. I am up front with the boarder control and I always have my entire application and my visitor extension with me in case I need them. I know people advise us here on the forum not to travel out of Canada but I had things that I could not get out of planned before we sent in the application and our consultant told me that I had no more chance of being denied due to my application that I did before applying. Since I have never had an issue crossing the boarder and since I am from the USA I did not feel it would be too much of an issue, I do still realize it could be an issue depending on who you run into at the border and their mood.

I guess the applicant that posted a while ago wished they used a consultant or lawyer since they screwed up the dates and COPR expired.


IMHO $4000.00 is not a lot of money to bring a loved one here. Hopefully, you will have a full life here !

Thanks everyone for the reply! I am currently here in Canada with a Temp. Work Permit, and I am from Philippines. My fiance is Canadian Citizen. We would rather apply inland since I am here already with TWP. I am just confuse if I can handle all the "stress" with the paper works.
