may be lot of poeple wont be agree with me

but saugaboss i m agreee with you and i m sure 100% that CSIS choose application randomly and it couls happen for anyone ! 1 year 2 1 month or coupele , you never know when it will be finished ...... i could be still waitin for my process finishin and you get your PPR

dont worry my friend
i think after much research i have concluded that if u are American born you dont have to worry too much but the only thing is my pakistani background but it shouldnt matter i never lived there i never been out of the US for more than 6 months. i thnk they do same bgc on everyone but if they r suspicious they will take longer and do other checks.... also im hoping since i am a girl :S lol it wont be too long!!! i talked to one lawyer they said ur trip to paki shouldnt matter either bc there r sooooooooooooo many brown ppl in canada its insane. they probably just sent that bc i asked where my file is they didnt randomly send it it was a response to my email...they probably r verifying my jobs and school etc. they dont have my parents info in detail and im never sponsoring them to canada they r set in the US. the email is very generic like giggles said so if like any american caucasion asked for an update they would have gotten the same response if that makes sense its not bc i am brown {please nobody take offense just saying it how it seems}

so i am officially not bugging out n hoping PPR end of October or earlier just like the rest of Buffalo applicants ;D!

(especially since i have been in the US my whole life)

I totally agree with you, SaugaBoss. That's what I was saying before. Plenty of people immigrate from the Middle East, people who were actually born and raised there. I don't think you being US born should be more cause for suspicion than them.

They could possibly be doing extra checks because of some suspicion or they are just doing the *normal* checks and you will hear something soon since you are within normal time :)

No need to panic just yet!!

There you do.....when it comes to Canadian immigration, patience is the key. The fact that your cuz's application took 7 months doesn't mean yours will be.

If you have no ties to Pakistan, then they will check the closest tie you have to that country, which are your parents. Your parents names will be forwarded to Canadian High Commission in Islamabad for extensive checks on your parent's background, and until Islamabad concludes their investigation and gets back to Buffalo, you will not get your visa. Islamabad has a way of verifying and checking on people's background, and would definitely process the cases they have on ground before attending to cases from other Canadian mission. It might take a while before you get a result from the embassy, but one thing you should know is that this checks are rather random. It could be possible that your cuz was so lucky that Islamabad treated her file as soon as they received it, and your case may be different. Just keep your fingers crossed and hope for the best result in the shortest possible time.

Again, I have to say this makes no sense. Will they be running extensive checks on my grandparents who are German and might be Nazis!!! :O??

Of course not. This is ludicrious.
I can almost certainly say that they do not check your extended family who are not immigrating with you.

If the people making these claims can provide some sort of proof (eg in the CIC procedure document) that background checks on all your extended family is needed, I might believe it. Until then, I say BS.

my parents r US citizens and have been living in the for almost 30 years now... They have lived in the US more than they have lived in Pakistan... and i think i agree with giggles it is hearsay. and i dont think my parents names will be forwarded there can be 1 milllion paki names how would they know without a SSN or DOB?

thanks for the feedback though guys but im still skeptical... i mean i talked to 2 lawyers they said it has nothing to do with u being pakistani its just standard procedure... they have to verify my job n schools etc... i mean if they wasted time on family members then it would take forever to be sponsored and its discrimination in my eyes

One of the hardest things about immigration is waiting. We start to worry, we go over our application in our heads, we see all the mistakes, we read too dam much information until we do not know whether we are coming or going.

Take a deep breath honey, have a large Vodka and tonic.....all is well.

Those of us that have been through it and got to the end can now laugh at our irrational fears but ye gods, during that waiting period I must have had millions of nightmares.

Good luck and get a decent night sleep if you can..........

If your last name corresponds to one of 500,000 names on the "no fly list", chances are it will trigger a CSIS/FBI extensive background check which could take months or years to complete. And yes, they can check your parents background. Like Osama Bin Laden's daughter for instance, even if
She's born in USA will probably not be able to immigrate to Canada by virtue of her
Dad. In 2004 at the US consulate general in Calgary, AB, the visa officer told me to write the full name and DOB of both my parents because I come from a country where extended background check is required, believe it or not.

I am from Jordan, born and raised in Australia (but not Aussie citizen). My last name happens to appear on the "no fly list', so you can guess how long my immigration to Canada took.....I applied in Sydney, Australia in 2003 and landed in 2006. I know for a fact that US does extended background checks, and Canada has similar standards as US now. In the past, the US had blamed the lax Canadian immigration system for the influx of would-be terrorist into Canada and then crossing the border into the USA. Remember the "Millenium Bomber", a fake-Canadian citizen from Jordan who had a car full of bomb to blow up LAX airport from Vancouver? After the 9-11 attack, it was first thought the terrorists came from Canada. Immigrating to Canada used to be easy and a one-month affair in the past, but with increasing pressure from US to toughen policies, its quite hard now to immigrate to Canada now. Trust me, a US visa officer told me first hand they will conduct intensive background check on me and my parents. Well, except if you don't have one of those popular Islamic name and your name is not on the no fly list you are ok. My last name is Habib and I am screwed up anytime I try to enter US or back into Canada even though I am a Canadian citizen born in Australia. They will definitely do extensive checks on you and your parents. The fact that you are born in America won't make an exception to the rule.

Goodluck girl, don't mean to scare you but to give you a reality check on your situation.

i dont think i ever gave my parents names date of births or maybe i had to i dont remember
It's on IMM 5406, Additional Family Information, along with your parents' place of birth.

They do enter this information about your parents into some computer system (one that CBSA has access to).

did they actually tell you that you were having extra background checks or did you ask them a general question on what was going on with your application and they said it was in backgrounds checks? Because if its the latter then you have nothing to worry, they can't tell you when its going to be done and they just have to give you the worst case scenario of a year.

You filed your application in May, and I filed my application in March and I just got my PPR a few days ago. You are in no way behind schedule. Sure there are people that have gotten done faster but they are the exception, not the rule.

try to relax a bit because this is all completely out of your hands!
