I think it's fair to say that nobody here knows exactly how CIC does things.

Having said that, your spouse was truthful about the employment information, even if she didn't disclose the fact that she was paid under the table. IMO, that's all she needs to keep in mind; that she was truthful in regards to answering the question.

I honestly don't know, but the fact is that she did not misrepresent that she had worked there.

That's really all you can do to deflect the angst that will undoubtedly surface now...wondering "what if".

I don't think CIC would consider that misrepresentation without further investigation. Visa officers will also be aware that it is possible, and in some countries very common, to work under the table, so would not just take the company's word that your wife never worked there.

In any case, it would most likely not be considered material to the application. For a misrepresentation to lead to a refusal, it has to be something that could have lead to a mistaken decision. Your wife did not lie on the application, so I think she is safe.

Really try not to worry about stuff like this that is out of your control. If they ever, in the most unlikely circumstance, did run into this issue, they'd give your wife a chance to explain it and wouldn't just outright deny her. The worst case scenario would probably be an interview, and if they requested proof you could provide a witness.
