IMM5490 Question 27... Have you and your sponsor lived together?

if I went to visit her twice for 2 weeks... doesn't it count?... or they mean stay together like renting an apartment together?

also the trips we did together we stayed in the same hotel/room doesn't it means yes

You could say yes or no for this question, BUT you have to explain. I have seen many appeal cases where people have answered no to this question, because they only spent 2 weeks together in a hotel for the honeymoon, or just spent a few days together when visiting, AND the appeal judge has felt that this was the wrong answer. In one case, the judge said that the couple was lying, because to this question they answered no, but they said they had stayed in a hotel together for their honeymoon.

So my suggestion is to say yes, give the dates, and attach an explanation. Say that you two stayed together from ---- to ---- at the ---- Hotel, stated at the ---- Hotel from ---- to ---- for your honeymoon, stayed together at the sponsor's apartment from ---- to ----, etc. This way even if the visa officer thinks that short stays do not count as a 'yes' for this question, he or she will see your explanation and not think you are lying.

If you do answer no, you should then, in the 'explain why not' section, clearly state that you have never lived together long enough to be considered common law, but that you have stayed together. Then give the dates and places when you stayed together.

We visited for a month at one point. We said "no", period. I didn't even consider it as living together so that's all we put.

Thanks very helpful

We checked NO
and wrote I am not sure to answer yes or no so I will explain... then we put all our trips and visits with the dates.

At least we are not lying and they can see when we were together.
