His birth certificate has his current family name. But before he was adopted, he was born under a different family name. Will the previous name even matter, now that he has been legally adopted and all pertinent documents are under his adopted family name? I'm thinking we could just handwrite the previous name (just to disclose it) and if they send a letter saying they need it reprinted and revalidated, then we can worry about it then. Chances are, they'll just accept the handwritten word. It's so hard when you're far apart and have to go through this stress of resending and mailing stuff. :(

I wish he can just reprint the other pages plus the barcode, and just affix the signature page, but the security number makes it impossible. I need to sign the page with the same security number. Arrghh

I think it matters. This is the kind of thing CIC just lives to get hung up about ::)

If your inclination is to just print it in by hand then I would go for it.

If entering multiple family names or given names, how do you separate them. I tried putting commas when filling it up electronically, but it won't allow me. It says characters aren't allowed.

That's when you have to write it in by hand! Or if no room write see attached and attach a note.

Right! Form won't allow me to type in multiple family names (and separate them with commas to avoid confusion), so I'm writing the additional name by hand! :D I think they will consider it, don't you think? :-X

Its not a problem..I filled all the forms in hand writing...As long as it clear and they know whats written it should not be a problem..Good luck

Yes! It's totally legit. I had to enter a bunch of things by hand. They're not a fan of long addresses, either.

Thanks! Was just worried because any additional handwritten text won't be included in the bar codes. But I just think it's not such a big deal. As long as you wrote clearly. Just wanted to be reassured that it's okay. :-[

Yeah. Now that we have our visa I'm wondering why I worried so much in the first place :D
I think if you put it clearly, your intentions are clear and your form can be understood you will be fine.
