Hi there

I received my CoPR (IMM-5688) and it says "NOT VALID FOR TRAVEL" on it. What does that mean?
Also, do I understand correctly that I become a permanent resident after my landing in Canada not after receiving my CoPR ? Also, PRTD is only for people that already have PR status and are in Canada right?

Thank you

COPR is not used to travelling. Its only useful to land and become PR but after that its just used for when applying for citizenship.

PRTD is for people who are don't have their PR card but needs to travel back to Canada only.

By "not used for traveling" you mean that it can't be used instead of a travel document like a passport for example right?

Believe you also need either an eTA or Visa to travel.

Hi there
In the letter I received along with my CoPR it says that I have been already issued equivalent of eTA along with my IMM-5688 and I do not need to apply for an eTA. I also contacted Canadian Embassy and they confirmed that because I'm from a visa-exempt country I do not need to apply for an eTA anymore because I received my CoPR which is linked with the equivalent of eTA. I also contacted my airline and airport border control and they said that when the Canadian Embassy says it's ok so it is ok. I spoke with a couple of the airline employees and they all confirmed that it's not the airline that checks it it's the airport border control which confirmed that they just run the passport through the Canadian system and if they say that it's ok then it is ok.

1. It is the airline that checks if you have a valid visa or eta, they input the information and get a board/no board response

thank you for your response
So they check it in the Canadian system? When I was in contact with the Canadian Embassy I Informed them about my concerns about the airline and they said that it's going to be fine, is the canadian government that issues eTA and I've been issued my CoPR by the same government.

Do you think that's ok?

Some airline staff are not clued in that a CoPR also has an eTA attached to it.

My wife had this issue. She showed here CoPR and the staff insisted she show here eTA as well. I was there and on my phone showed the web page where is states that visa-exempt countries do not need and eTA and they still said she has to apply for an eTA!

Luckly one man had some sense and called their high-commission contact who confirmed that my wife did not need to show and eTA as this had been electronically created and attached to the CoPR.

They were utterly amazed that the online check-in had allowed her to obtain a boarding pass as well.

Looks like Air Transat needs to train up it's staff a bit more.
