IMM 5532, confused about was your sponsor related to you

Hello, in this form part B, it asks Information about the principal applicant:
• Before this relationship, was your sponsor related to you in any way? eg
• your sponsor was related to a member of your family
• your sponsor's family member was related to you or a member of your family

I am really confused by this question because my wife is basically my father's sister's daughter's daughter(I am 6 years older than her).

In my case, should I tick yes or no for this question? If yes, whose name should my wife give( my father or her mother or her mother's mother) and what to write in relationship field. Thanks

You are first cousins, once removed (removed being one generation apart). At least that's the usual term in English.

The way to enter this on the web page is 'the common ancestor', i.e. the single person who is the closest direct relative of you both.

In your case: your grandfather [your father's father] and your spouse's great-grandfather [father of your father's sister, i.e. your aunt] is the same person (if I understood correctly your description).

So yes, you should tick this box. Describe however you like - I'd go with term above and how you described or similar (your wife is the granddaughter of your father's sister.)

ok thank you, it cleared my confusion and now I know what to write there. From what I understand, it is considered valid marriage in Canada (cousins, first cousin), so does that mean we are not related by blood, is this right?

I don't know about that. I would say you are related to blood, but not my area of knowledge.

I think you and your spouse are related by blood. as armoured's reply, your grandfather and your spouse's great grandfather is the same person. That's blood relationship. (not related by blood means relatives that's related by marriage.)
