im tired of Ontario!

Do you think an MBA would help? Most private sector employers that I checked are looking for college diploma holders with 5-10 years of experience. I already spent fortune on doing MSc and PhD and at the end got no job.
If I ever go to school again, it will be vocational school that provides work placement.

i think any education in canada would/should help...as those employers will consider it sort of "canadian experience",...at least the guys i know here in ontario - the majority got decent jobs only after doing further studies here. Another friend didn't consider studying here and got a decent job 1 year after landing....so things can work either way, just we (new comers) should be patient and we should have a plan..otherwise we'll be lost here

2 did MBA's and both got jobs at their universities after graduation , one did MSc in Engineering Management & got a good job at a telecom company immediately after graduating, another one a PHD in telecom and working as a consultant earning 80k+ ...they have done survival jobs at the beginning and during their studies, but at the end they managed to settle and succeed here

This forum is not for fighting amongst yourself. I agree with enambd in that education is always useful. I work in Ontario with a six figure salary. I work as an IT consultant (SAP). Ontario is pretty good if you have the experience and international certifications. Some of the certifications in demand are SAP, CCNA, PMP, CPMA, etc.

My entry to Canada was on a study permit. I graduated on aug 19, 2011 and was working by aug 22. I had my experience to fall back on. I have worked for SAP labs in waldhorf, london, HK and India. I started off with 85k. Employers do value Canadian education. I would say the recipe would be international certifications with canadian education. That should work in Canada.

BTW while I was graduating I was working as a dish washer in an Italiant restaurant in Toronto. I also used to mow lawns for property stars in summer. 'Survival jobs' are plenty and easy to come by.

I'm working on that recipe, I already have ITIL certifiations (Foundation & intermediate level), i booked the PMP exam next month and now preparing for it - while at the same time applying for any suitable job which comes by - also trying to build contacts here. If i didn't get a decent job in the coming 12 months - i will consider going for an MBA with co-op placement

Networking helps a lot. I would suggest that you go out to meetup groups and meet new people. Go out for drinks or a movie, you never know who you meet.
I met a head hunter, Eduardo in a meetup group. He placed me in the company I am working currently.

As you probably have seen - we are both 2 recently landed immigrants and were sharing thoughts, plus some experiences of people i know who landed several years ago - i don't think that makes me a troll, don't just go around forums accusing people without any reason.

Besides, what benefit do you think a new immigrant would get out of your words above? You mentioned education wastes money (which i think is wrong - education can never be a total waste, even if you didn't benefit from it immediately - at some point you will benefit from it), survival jobs are impossible to get (which is very wrong, i was already offered a survival job only 2 weeks after landing - but chose not to go for it at this stage)

If you have something useful to say (which i doubt) then say it, otherwise keep your words to yourself as they are absolutely of no use to anyone here. You are trying to demotivate new immigrants - if you were not able to succeed in this country - its too bad for you - but it doesn't mean that anyone else will fail.

Don't be discouraged by what that "person" mentioned earlier, try you luck - i dont believe it would be difficult to get a teller job or call center job - yes you will be competing with canadians - but those are "low-skilled" canadians you should be able to get a chance.

I have met some canadians in "resume writing" workshops and "interview skills workshops" who don't even know how to use MS office and haven't persued any eduation after completing highschool, do you think it would be difficult to compete with them?

Have confidence in yourself, you know the language & you have the education - nothing should be standing in your way

Try to find goverenment agencies who offer similiar services in your area, if you visit career fairs you should also meet a few of them there...i just quickly googled and found the below upoming career fairs:

I was expecting the recruiter to mention that I Am overqualified for the position, but she did not ask such questions.

That was exactly what i expected...getting a survival job is not difficult, but getting a job in your own field requires time and patience...and a good plan as well. Hopefully by time you also manage to build contacts which will help you in exploring better job opportunities.
