Hi everyone!

I have received confirmation for my PR card for Canada! Me and my SO are very happy!

However, it is much, much quicker than we had both anticipated!

Timeline wise, I was planning on moving their next summer, which would work better for us financially and in other realms as far as rental leases go. The PR card has a valid date Until 08 January 2016.

I have a few things planned here in the US as well.

I just want to check, is it possible for me to go to Canada to get the PR approved before the date of expiration and still spend a little bit of time in the states? Living and working?

I'm not sure what the rules and restrictions are.

I also have a wedding planned for a friend I need to come back for regardless. So, I would literally need to fly there to get that approved and come back a week or so later for the wedding.

Does anyone have some insight on this? Or can point me in the right direction?

Again, I am very eager to have been approved! Just thought from the Processing center this would be happening next year, not this year!

Thanks in advance.

Congratulations!

You must enter Canada and `land' as a PR before the expiry date on your CoPR document that you received.

After you land, you can return to the U.S. and then officially move to Canada anytime within 3 years (to meet your residency obligation requirements).

If your sponsor is a Canadian citizen, and s/he is with you, it's even possible that the days spent outside of Canada would still count towards your RO.
Some people have ran into problems when the Canadian citizen [sponsor] is the one accompanying the applicant that `chooses' to be outside of Canada.

Congratulations! It appears from your posting history that you were a February applicant? If so, moving in the summer of 2016 would never be in the cards, as applications processed in Ottawa very rarely take longer than 12 months even when they're being slow.

No, not generally. The border officers will care that you are actually moving to Canada when you confirm your permanent residence. Many users land and then return to finalize their affairs, but if they believe that you will land but return to live and work for a long period of time then they can refuse to process your COPR.

I do agree with Majromax, in that you shouldn't disclose plans to stay outside of Canada for up to three years.

If your plans change...so be it. ;)
