Hi All,

I am applying for Canada Immigration along with my family.

My elder brother along with his family already have Canadian citizenship. But he works and resides in USA.

Please tell if it would be required to show his Immigration proofs and if yes will it help in getting the Immigration earlier.

Also how long can it take to get the Immigration.

Thanks

Meena

hi,
if you need the 5 points for having a relative who is a canadian citizen, yes you need to send proof of relation. otherwise you don't need to send supporting documents showing relationship.
for fsw, cic says they'll process in 6 to 12 months.

meena,

in order to claim 5 points for having a canadian relative, your relative should not only be a permanent resident (or citizen) of canada, but he/she should also be currently residing in canada. if your brother is a canadian but he is living and working in USA, you can't claim 5 points for him. i'm more than sure about this because this is exactly the same what happened to me. my wife's brother is canadian citizen but living and working in USA. so we couldn't claim 5 points for him. luckily my wife also has an uncle (real brother of my wife's father) who is a canadian and currently living in canada. so we ended up claiming points by virtue of my wife's uncle. i'm sorry i know this is not what you want to hear, but this is the truth. the CIC instructions very clearly say that your canadian relative should be a canadian permanent resident (or citizen) currently living in canada.

secondly, i personally dont think the application process speeds up because of having a canadian relative. the maximum benefit you can having for having a canadian relative is that you can claim 5 additional points under adaptability. if your application really speeds up because of having a canadian relative, then i am sorry this is not in my knowledge.

good luck.

-However, it won't hurt to submit your relative's copy of passport or copy of their citizenship card. You never know, if the IO of your case is in good mode may give you 5 points! Even IO doesn't give 5 points, at least he/she will know that you have relatives in Canada.

If you have relative who was in Canada part time since u applied, supposse for a month and on and off during the year your application is processed, then I think u can still claim 5points. All they need is that your relative can help u settle when u reach there. I think if u have relative who is perm resident or citizen, not living the entire year when yr application is processed in Canada, then u can claim 5 points.
Help me if I am wrong
Thanks

Read the instruction for local visa office. as per example for buffalo,USA its says to prove relationship send birth certificate of your relative and if citizen then passport copy and if resident then PR card copy..so..just try to send only those two documents..you never know..just try to play wid your luck..i think it will work
