CIC looks at the individual scores over section to calculate points. Look at Section 12.9 at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/manuals/op/op06-eng.pdf for details on the points. In your example, if you gave the scores L/R/W/S you would have 4 points each for listening, reading, and writing and 2 points for speaking for English as your first language. Thus a total of 14 points (assuming you took the test on or after Nov 28 2008.nicholas30 said:it depends, even with an overall band of 7.5 you may not get the full 16 points![]()

You can decide which language you report as your first (should be your stronger language) and which as your second. You can get a maximum of 16 points for fluency in your first language vs a maximum of 8 points for fluency in your second.hell911 said:does "first" or "second" official language matters?
Indeed, that is how IELTS grants the overall score. For FSW, CIC grants points based on scores in the individual modules.leo4bilal said:Overall score is the average of all four modules score.... So, you can get 7.5 even if you not maintain the same figure in each module.
For example: I got 7.5 Overall, but my individuals were:
R = 6.0
L = 8.5
S = 7.0
W = 7.5
