woww! this question is really up to individuals.

You can't compare like that. Some just take the test even though they didn't prepare at all.

I suggest you do some practice test on the internet for free and see what your level is.

It's not likely that you will get a good band if you didn't practice, even if you are a native speaker of the English Language. Practice is important to familiarize yourself with the test patterns, and know what to expect. So taking the test without preparing at all wont get you your desired score, i can bet you.

I did a lot of practise tests and was reading a lot of information on the procedures of the exam. You can find more information here:

http://www.ielts-blog.com/
http://www.canadavisa.com/ielts/free-practice-tests.html
http://www.ielts.org/test_takers_information/test_sample.aspx

For the listening test it is very important to practise, practise, practise :D For the reading test I did a lot of practise tests as well to familiarise myself with the format and type of questions. When you pracitse writing it would be best to get your essays checked by a teacher or someone who knows about essay writing and letter writing. Also, read this (very helpful):

http://www.ieltshelpnow.com/general_training_writing_test_2.html

The speaking test is tricky because you cannot really learn to speak excellently in a few weeks if you have only basic speaking skills. But I would recommend that you practise with a friend. It is important that you speak fluently and use a variety of words without stopping to find words. If you make a mistake it is okay but you should correct yourself if you noticed the mistake.

Good luck to you!
