It's true and the intent of such questions is to analyze how you can analyze and asses the meanings of a paraphrased complex sentence. Despite rumors means (however many believe it but.....)

The passage said "Despite rumours to the contrary, skinks are all completely harmless to humans, being neither poisonous nor able to inflict damage with their teeth" not what you're saying. This means in spite of the opposite effect from what has been stated or what is expected. What has been stated in this case is "being harmful" and NOT being "poisonous". The answer here is NOT GIVEN.

I Wish you all the Best ANYWAYS! because it doesn't matter what we think as the right choice :D

And Nostrils are nose openings :p

Yes, just like eyes have a pupil but the eye isn't the pupil. The head has the brain but the head isn't the brain. LIKEWISE THE "NOSE" HAS "NOSTRILS" AND THE "NOSE" ISN'T THE "NOSTRILS". I rest my case. Cheers and goodluck

Hi Guys,

How did you attempt the writing task? I believe the listening and reading modules were straight forward and a band score of 8 in each module is very possible, but we can never tell what our writing score will be. Please lets share our approach to the writing tasks, it will help other candidates preparing for the IELTS test. Thank you.

Regards

It was an opinion essay. I supported that as a good thing with relevant reasons and examples and a conclusive summary.

The answer to the question on poison is clearly "TRUE" . Venomous was used in the sentence and this is the synonym for Poisonous.

On the part time question, I selected "NG". I chose Not Given because there is no where in the text that talked about part-time and full-time work. Though someone said there was a statement below the passage on part-time jobs, but I am not sure how true this is.

The answer to the question on Skinks presence all over New Zealand is "TRUE" This was buttressed in two different paragraphs; the introductory paragraph and one of the paragraphs on the next page which I cannot recall now.

Venomous was used but not in teeth part..i remember clearly..after finishing the teeth topic it was abt tail and skin which aren't poisonous...when talked of teeth only mentioned harmfull..which doesnt mean poisonous..for part time i also chose NG..and for New Zealand i chose NG as well but i believe it might be false as it mentioned nowadays u can find lizards in every spot of 2 main island of NZ..so perhaps not all over NZ..

The question states that some people believe that Skinks are poisonous. The answer to this question is in the sentence highlighted below;

"Despite rumours to the contrary, skinks are all completely harmless to humans, being neither poisonous nor able to inflict damage with their teeth"

The above statement can be paraphrased below as;

"Skinks are not harmful to humans, they are not poisonous and cannot inflict damage with their teeth, despite rumours to the contrary"

I have bolded the text containing the answer to the question. The answer is clearly "TRUE"
