I have an idea for people who are applying for PR, have not done so yet, and will apply after they get married. Here is the idea...

DO PRE-MARITIAL COUNSELLING!

My husband and I did pre-maritial counselling with my pastor...mostly because he made us lol...but we got a letter from him for immigration including some of the work we did for it and I'm sure it has helped. Since we were in separate countries, we did the counselling over phone and email, but it went well anyway.

You see, immigration wants proof that the relationship will be long lasting, doing pre-maritial counselling shows that both people are willing to give 100%, and immigration sees this as strong evidence of that.

Just a thought, I hope this helps!

Excellent suggestion...both for proving a genuine marriage, and just truly preparing yourself for a lasting marriage. I had never thought of doing it over the phone, but it is a great idea.

Thank you! My husband ddnt need an interview and they have his passport now, and i was wondering why they would believe us and not others, and this was what I believe one of the reasons was. I really hope people use this idea and I hope people benefit from it. I know we have!

So you weren't married at the time you applied? Just out of curiosity, what category did you apply under?

Nowhere in her post does it say that they weren't married when they applied. In fact, her original post says, "I have an idea for people who are applying for PR, have not done so yet, and will apply after they get married."

What I've understood from her post is that, before they got married, they did pre-marital counseling. Once they were married, they began preparing their PR application and included the letter from the pastor who did their counseling as additional proof of relationship.

This sort of thing is actually not too uncommon. My husband and I got married in Newfoundland and had to undergo pre-marital counseling with one of the church's pastors before they would marry us, as well. There was group counseling with other couples and then one-on-one with just ourselves. It's very standard procedure in some places. Of course... we didn't think to ask him for a letter, although we did mention the counseling with dates and the pastor's name, etc.

My wife an I included our premarital counseling 'package'. It was a booklet with the results of an online survey (100+ questions) we took, detailing our similarities and differences, our strengths and weaknesses, and how well we fit together as a couple. It gave a very positive outlook for our future. I'm sure sending that in will, like all the other evidence, give us a good case.

Yes you are exactly right! Thank you for helping clarify.

We applied after we got married, and we put copies of the pre-maritial counselling as well as a letter from the pastor in the application. We applied under the spousal application

We applied outside Canada at the Guatemala embassy, we applied last september but they have had his passport since January and haven't asked for an interview. We are waiting on the RCMP criminal record check as he has lived in Canada and they asked for it.
