I was also told that even when they issue the STUDENT visa here, it must be approved at the port of entry by the agent.

That means, it could be refused.

Does this happen often?

What would be reasons be for refusal at the airport?

Is there anything we can do to make sure this doesn't happen?

Yes - technically you could still be refused at the port of entry. No - it doesn't happen very often. It happened to someone on this forum a few years ago. He arrive around three months before the start of his studies and the officer was concerned he was coming to Canada to work illegally before his studies started. He was sent home (not allowed to enter Canada) and was told to return close to the start of this studies.

this is a possibility that can happen to ANY visa not just the student visa. And yes, the situation that scylla stated is one of the reasons they send you back.
As long as you are here for the reasons stated in your visa and have the supporting paperwork, you should be just fine.
Seriously, the point of entry experience for me was no big deal for me, as it was for a lot of people who arrived at the same time I did.

Thank you for your responses scylla and scorpio,

I wanted to ask, can they question me on living expenses?

I only put GIC certificate(1 year living expenses) + Fee receipt as financial docs in visa file.

How much am I supposed to show at the POE?
Am I supposed to show them full 2 years living expenses and tuition fees?

Thank you again :)

does anyone here know if its possible for me to enter Canada a few months later after my start date if my student visa is issued later than my start date? I intended on reapplying for sept intake and continue working in my home country till august. but i am worried they might cancel my visa if i don't come to canada before january.
