hi mehdiR, I'm so sorry to hear about your problems too, that's just insane I don't understand how these so called professionals justify charging $500 for a free document!! Please file a complaint, I was reading a public inquest CIC did about immigration consultants and they found that a large % of people that have problems with one never report it, we gotta change that, the reason it's been happening for so long and continues to happen is because of this, and it just ain't fair.

As per the retainer agreement I will send a copy to the council as well. In my email requesting a refund I pointed out his clause about withdrawing from using his services, it states that he will only charge up to the time he represented us, he didn't provide me with a statement of account to see how exactly he had earned the $1,500 +. I'll send my complaint in tomorrow, I'm making a point to the council that because of his actions we're left without money to hire anyone else and see each other (we decided to sacrifice seeing each other more this year and use that money to hire the consultant). I read their professional conduct page and according to that he did not act in our best interest.
I sure will contact the agent this week and ask for refund and If they get upset , so be it.
They 've annoyed me and my wife enough,
The only thing is I do not know what kind of supporting document they have sent with the application. I hope they didn't lie , since I heard from the secretary that they sent a lease agreement as well .
How do I disappoint/cancel the representative ? I 've already paid half of the agreed fee($1250), + $500 and my application is approved and sent to the VO.
some seniors suggested that I cancel them and never let the agent know. but what happens at the end.? ...

I believe to cancel a representive you should fill in parts: A, C and D of this form:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/forms/IMM5476E.PDF

and fax it to Ankara Visa Office at (90-312) 409-2714.

Good luck and keep us posted.

I sent the complaint to the council and it was received today, we'll see what the outcome is. I'm also considering sending my story to the local media, I don't have high hopes of seeing my money back but if it can prevent other people from being ripped off, then I'll be happy.

Expensive lesson, but it goes to show you have to be very careful who you hire. This consultant is listing a four month course (continuing education) as a masters in immigration, I contacted the university to verify. You'd think someone that's regulated wouldn't be misleading in their advertisement... yeah right! So again, do thorough research and get everything in writing, and most importantly follow your instincts if anything is off walk away.

You HAVE to tell me the name. I think I might know and if I'm right, I would not trust these people to take out my garbage. Send me a PM if you don't want to post here. :D

Still haven't heard anything from the council, I sent a follow up email last week and the response was that it takes over 30 days and if anything happens they'll let me know.

I'm wondering if complaints are taken seriously by the council and how concerned they really are about helping people that have been ripped off by a consultant.

This consultant is based out of Vancouver, I'm going to wait a bit more and send the story to the small newspapers and big ones too, hopefully they can publish something to make people aware of this problem. It makes me so mad to think some people think it's ok to steal other people's hard earned money, I can't imagine being ok with acting in such a way.

I have a question I was reffered to a immigration consultant who is in another province, my friend gave me his number I called him and explain the situation he said he needed a retainer fee so I sent him part of the $4,200 he is charging to sponsor my husband after I deposit the money in his bank account I called him he said he has a list of stuff he needs to email me a week passed I didn't get the email I called him he said he has a client he will call me tomorrow or the day after I didn't hear from him so I called him he answered I said I still didn't received the list in my email he said he is gonna email it again and I didn't get it after 2 days so I called him on the Monday none answered and then Tuesday I phoned in the morning and in the afternoon no one answered so I left a message to what's going on and I needed my money back so I can get another consultant and the rest of the week went by no call so on the weekend I called on the Saturday because they are open on Saturday no answer what can I do

The complaint with the ICCRC will most likely get your money back for you. This is really shoddy work.

The agreement you signed should have been a retainer and money SHOULD be refunded to you, subtracting the billable time he actually put into your file. There is no "deposit" in these kinds of legal agreements. It is first portion of the retainer, etc.

Your plan of a complaint is a good one. Do it now. ICCRC takes these very seriously. And so do consultants so you might want to let him know that you are filing a complaint and he may give you your money back voluntarily. Believe me, he cannot do ANYTHING negative to your application. But I understand if you don't want to advise him that it's coming.

I'm with CharlieD. I'd like to know who this idiot is.

I was a student when I want to make an open work permit application for my husband. I paid 1255$ to a lawyer on march 2020. Because of covid19, my application has been paused as VFS remain closed until december. He didn't gave me any receipt and we didn't signed any retainer agreement till now. Now I want to apply dependent visa on 2022. Can I get my money back as refund? Please suggest me with an answer. Thanks for reading the post.

Nothing we can do here. It's between you and your consultant. Is he even an authorized representative/consultant? And you are replying to a 2012 discussion....

Where is this consultant? Canada? Your home country?

Most likely you aren't entitled to a refund. The services you paid for were to submit the application.
